  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
I expect all 19 year old non-lottery picks to STRUGGLE in the NBA.

Young was and is no different.  And I think he will progress this year, next year, and so on.
He could be a steal. Defense is where he must improve to play more. I believe he does have a work ethic. When one sees a Draymond Green and D Jordan not lottery picks work hard and get the money they just did. I think Young wants that in his future.
"People look at players, watch them dribble between their legs and they say, 'There's a superstar.'  Well John Havlicek is a superstar, and most of the others are figments of writers' imagination."

Does that mean he won't shank so many 3's this year? Certainly too early to give up but for a shooting specialist he was terrible at shooting last year, a lot of the opportunities were wide open too. If his shooting doesn't improve quickly Hunter could take his spot by the time the season starts because Hunter's shot may come and go but it won't be broken for an entire season like Young's was last year. Young and Hunter coming off the bench would be a fun lineup with IT feeding them on the perimeter if they can step it up and make those open shots.

yes, if by 19 and 1/2 years old young is not shooting like a nba veteran, he needs to go, go, go. and hunter, no need for him to play a minute in the nba before we want him to replace young. hunter's pedigree in college as shooter should show what he can do....oh wait!!!

or, we can be patient with the young players. it worked with bradley.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Yup.  I thinking the drafting of RJ Hunter will definitely push Young to improve.
But Young certainly has athleticism and tools that can't be taught.
Hoping that he can turn into a Harrison Barnes type for us but we have to remember that he is very young.
James Young is still the youngest player on the team by 10 months even counting the new rookies!!

As many open shots as Young missed last year, it seems like it's mental. He shot the lights out from the pro 3 point line in the D-League so he's got the ability. He needs to get comfortable and adjust to the speed of the game and from the reports I'm reading (albeit on Celtic web sites) it sounds like he's up to speed now.

He would have been last year if we gave him more minutes but we pushed for the playoffs and Jonas and Gigi and crowder took minutes away from him. But I think that was a positive thing.

Agreed. Making the playoffs shows him what he's working for in a real, tangible way.

Shuttlesworth did you even see any of Youngs D league games last year? To say his shot was broken all year and  terrible is just wrong. If you knew about James' situation and very young players in the league you would give him some slack. Even Kobe as a rookie sucked it up and had people calling for him to not play.

I think Stevens knows exactly how to develop players Youngs age. Maybe Stevens would have still not played Young even if those players had not taken minutes from him. I trust how Stevens will get the most motivation and best play from his developing players(players in general too). What he did at Butler was insane and he knows what he is doing.

They say the reason why he had trouble making buckets in the NBA was b/c he wasn't strong enough, he would be bumped and touched, they would move him off his spots and that rattled his confidence. In the DL those guys are just like college players and not as big and strong as NBA guys, that's probably why it was still fire there.

I don't know if it's true but I hope it is.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I suspect it was the speed of the game, and an attempt to rush to get ahead of it.  In the end it doesn't matter why, he will improve naturally with age - and he needs to.

Young added both strength and athletic ability those are always a plus in the NBA.  He is a kid and at 19, I think I read he added three inches to his vertical.

It will help him a great deal in terms of the physical aspect of the game.   The trouble is the mental aspects take younger but he is so young.  Some of these gains could be his body maturing some more actually.

Last year, Calipari and a few others said his body was still maturing.

I remember around the age of 20/21 I really started to fill out in my muscularity and size. He's so young that he's probably just now starting to fill out into a grown man's body.
