I think they will be called the New York Nets. Peple in Brooklyn are going to root for them anyways, but being called "New York" will attract a lot more fans from the City and surrounding areas. In sounds sentimentally great to call them "Brooklyn" and it would be cool, but in these times where every thing is to much about money, I can't see them passing on the New York title. And the stadium won't be called "Ebbets" either.  ;)

As a resident of Brooklyn I think should be named the Brooklyn ... not NY ...  We have an outrageously popular minor league baseball team, and the fact that it is Brooklyn not NY is a reason.

One thing to note is that it is not certain the team is moving.  There have been a ton of hold ups and there is no way they will be ready for 2010.  Also I have talked to a few people about it and some are downright angry that the team is coming here.

I think to give it true street cred, its gotta be the Brooklyn Ballas (vs. Ballers, extra letter = waste, who wants to text yo, I'm at the Ballers game tonight - no its At da Ballas homes, good stuff)

or we could compromise - the Brooklyn Ballin Nets... or the Brooklyn Net Balls... umm ... no keep it The Brooklyn Nets, tradition is important and its not like the Bullets where nets go out and kill people, ( I contend the Wizards name change was lame, but hey)

Wouldn't, marketing-wise, it make more sense to have the name Brooklyn. There's tons of gear sold nationwide that has an NY or New York on it. The Nets would have the only gear that says Brooklyn across the chest.

Big, huge, giant money maker there.

Besides there is the whole nostalgia marketing end to it.

As for the name of the arena that is going to go to the highest bidder.

I happen to like Geico Arena myself with a billboard of Lebron playing a game of one on one vs the Geico Gecko hanging outside the arena.

The Brooklyn Rebus Rankins. What? Like none of you were thinking of suggesting that they name the team after you.  ;)

I say keep the Nets name.

I think they will be called the New York Nets.

Brooklyn, as a "brand" of sorts, has become enormously popular and lucrative over the last five or so years. You see sweatshirts with "Brooklyn" across the chest all over Europe, for example.

I could understand going with New York Nets on account of the old ABA team, but the name Brooklyn will, I think, create an immediate fan base in a way that "New York" would not-- after all, they'd just be another New York team. Whereas they can have "Brooklyn" all to themselves.
