Interesting quote from Chris Forsberg regarding early impressions of this kid from training camp:

"Time will tell if first-round picks Aaron Nesmith and Payton Pritchard can help this team but, if their skill sets translate from the college level — and whispers from first glimpses inside the Auerbach Center were encouraging, particularly for Pritchard — the first-rounders have potential to boost a previously inconsistent Boston bench."

Pritchard looks more ready than Nesmith but the shooting for both will upgrade the bench for sure. Pritchard has such a high skill level and work ethic that his floor is probably end of bench player and his ceiling is 6th man or 5th starter.

Perk liked the pick - a lot. He was gushing about the guy.

Pritchard is a tough little guard in the mold of Fred van vleet....

The more clips I see of him. The more accurate is the FVV conparisons.

Pritchard on both ends of the court initiates contact.  He much rather grind through his defender on the drive than try to take the open lane for a clean layup. On defense he pulls Grant Williams type mini bodychecks to grab rebounds etc.  Just knows how to get away with this crap  ;D

Superb motor.  But also like FVV cant jump. Not explosive. Relies on putting shoulder down to build momentum

This is one of the closest comparisons I can remember. I hope PP can play with as big a chip on his shoulder as FVV.

Reggie Miller had cruel range at ucla yet people doubted he could play in the NBA, yeah that is NBA Hall of Famer Reggie Miller. The truth is you do not know until you know with shooters.  More recently people doubted Bobby Hield because of his age. How is that working out?

TJ McConnell

Any comparison to Fred is super green glasses view. I'm a big fan of this kid but I'm also realistic.
ok fine

Way better than McConnell on offense, not as good on defense. There games aren’t similar. I’m not saying Pritchard will be FVV but there games look similar. Very small odds that Pritchard gets anywhere close to FVV.

The only similarity between McConnell and Pritchard is that they're white. McConnell has no range on his shot and looks to pass first. Pritchard is a long-range sniper with elite handles that scores first, but can make good playmaking reads too. Not 'realistic' in the slightest.

He actually reminds me a bit of another Oregon guard, that isn't Luke Ridnour.

Something about his ball-handling and ability to score from all levels reminds me of 2010 Aaron Brooks, before his career went off the rails. He's a lot bigger than Brooks, but that kind of shiftiness and ability to score (some here will remember Brooks dropping 30/9 on us in an OT game) is there. I don't think that Pritchard will ever be a 20PPG guy, at least when he's behind JT, JB, and Kemba, but I think there are many more similarities there than TJ McConnell

Interesting comparison! Lowry’s beefy nature allows him to be quite flexible on defence. Would love for Pritchard to get that strong a core
