Living in Austin, Texas now and spent most of my adult live in Nashville, Tennessee, I'm originally from Kentucky, US. My father's side of the family (the Day's) came from England. Some of them were early English settlers in America. Oddly, I even found once that one of them was a mayor of some early English community around the area in olden times that eventually became Boston. I forget the name of the place. I traced that and other close Day family branches back to London and then further to a small community on a river which as I remember was in Southern England where my father's family appears to have had their early roots.
My mother's side of the family is half of English descent (maternal Grandfather's side) and half of German descent (my precious maternal Grandmother's side). I had some trouble tracing my Grandfather's family more than a few generations before I ran into gaps and spottiness in records. However, I was easily able to trace my mom's Mom's Germanic family back almost 700 years to the European Middle Age.
My better half is half Sicilian, one quarter Native American (Apache) and one quarter English. As though that combo was not quite enough for her, in addition to English, she speaks fluent German, Spanish and Esperanto -- and at times, like when she's excited...or mad at me -- it all runs together. I'll tell you, if you've never been cursed and threatened by a Native American Sicilian in what I can only describe as Germano-Spanglish, it has a way of making the hair on your neck and body stand on end in ways not many other things can. She's known widely as the Honorable HCAFM (Highly Compact And Efficient Fighting Machine). She earned the distinction and lives up to it well.
