Don't like it. Too young. Too much bball left in him.

Heck, I wonder if Evan Turner wouldn't be the best wing player among the Celtics backups right now.

He's been pretty bad for the Blazers for a couple years.

Not sure what he can teach guys other than telling guys to be more aggressive and selfish to then get their money. He never improved much but he is supposed to help player development? Bad addition, I expect they send him to gleague to assist there.

So are our bench wings.

Rookie Nesmith
Injury prone Romeo
undersized SG Carsen Edwards
defensive combo forward Semi
Undersized PF Grant Williams

Do we really believe Evan Turner cannot put a uniform on right now and compete with those guys for minutes?

No. He's been really, really bad for a few years. Like can't defend anyone bad. Like can make an outside shot bad. Like needs to have the ball to be effective but isn't good enough to have the ball to be effective bad.

Ojeleye and Langford can at least bring it on defense at a higher level than Turner and both are better shooters right now. Nesmith will likely be a much better shooter. All three don't require the ball a lot to contribute to the team.

If generic player X has roughly Turner's size but can shoot from 3 at 37%, he's probably more effective on this team than Turner, despite a wide gap in overall skills and experience. It's not like Turner is turning down offers left and right for an assistant coaching gig. There's a reason he's coaching at age 32.

I really like this a lot. Of course I have no clue how good of a coach he will be, but I think there can never be enough value on having a guy around people connect to. ET from all accounts was an awesome pro, and I think can really connect with our young team,

I don't know. You might be right. I just don't know.

I'm worried Turner is going to get out there and realize he can still kick the crap outta these guys in practice.

Portland was always going to be a terrible situation for Evan Turner. Playing off the ball alongside two ball dominant guards. That is not his game. Being back in Boston in a more equal opportunity offense. You could see quite a difference in his play here.

As long as he’s not responsible for teaching guys how to shoot, I’m good, lol.

I kid, I kid.

Just heard on the radio that Kyle Draper is going to the Sacramento Kings as part of their play by play.

Not sure how much he'll actually play, but it's a nice homecoming for a good veteran.

Huh? As an assistant coach. Not player  ;D
Wait, what? He's retired??? Isn't he like 32? That's bizarre.

Thats like the new 35 in todays NBA

Unless you are a special talent or is one of those elite shooters.  Looks like once you hit 32-33,  you are out of a job.

His shooting never improved.  But he knew how to play.   The tendencies of opposing wings.   How to get out of slumps, health tips, injuries etc.

Nice. Help Nesmith and Langford
hopefully so. though i think langford would benefit more in the short term. langford's style of game always reminded me of turner's style of game. good cutting to the basket and making moves down low.

given turner's career as an outside shooter sits at 29% i hope he doesnt take nesmith under wing there. ;)

but yeah, good move and i think turner will help the youngsters on the team.

Uhh, I didn't know he'd retired as a player. :o But, hey, welcome back, Evan!

Exactly my thought. Turner may have been overpaid, but I didn't think he was done. Couldn't he have landed a veteran minimum contract somewhere and made much more than he will as an assistant coach?
