Jaylen’s salary next year will put him as the 47th highest paid player if he doesn’t earn the $2 million bonus for MVP, DPOY, or All-NBA, pending any changes that occur in free agency this summer. For perspective, ESPN ranked him 51 in the NBA entering this season. I’m not a huge fan of player rankings, and certainly salary lists have players below Jaylen who are underpaid and above Jaylen who are overpaid, but on the whole it seems difficult to argue that this is an overpay, or even paying all that much for potential.
