I thought this thread topic was about apples vs oranges.

I thought it was about fruit!!!

Where does apple get off, and go and "roid up" with illegal apple pie? (Cheater!)

We all know why oranges don't need a pie, cause they are sweet on their own....they don't need to cheat like apples.

Apples need to cheat and be mixed in with sweets and pies to stand against oranges.

I think this is more due to the fact that oranges is a one-fruit team, while apple is more versatile and can complement a variety of style, oranges cant.
Anything is possible!!!

This thread has quickly become one of the funniest things I've read in a while. You can't really beat an all-fruit starting five.

Ahem.....I take 1 week to go on vacation and this is what happens to the Celtics blog???  Kewl, I need to take more vacation.  The obvious answer to this question is indeed the apple.  Don't take my word, let's channel Dan Shaunessey and look at a few things here:

Better spokesman:
Anita Bryant or Johnny Appleseed
Winner, hands down the apple.  Anita Bryant can't carry John Chapman's jock
1-0 apple

Better desert:
Orange Sherbet or Apple Pie
Although I like orange sherbet, none of us see families scurrying for sherbet around the holidays.  Winner the apple
2-0 apple

Better Candy flavor
Orange Skittles or Apple Jolly Rancher
A gimme for Roy, the orange is on the board.
2-1 apple

Better Music Association:
REM's Orange Crush or Apple Records
Even a drunk Peter Buck would agree that they are totally overwhelmed here
4-1 apple (2 points for the lopsided win)

Better Basketball Color
Syracuse Orange or Celtics Green
Paging Mr. Jim Boeheim, the NIT is on the phone.  17 Banners baby
5-1 apple

Better Drink
Orange Juice or Appletini
No contest, the fruit from the south wins.
5-2 apple

Better Technology
Orange Internet Services or Apple Computer
Oh gee, let's see, a UK internet company or the company that brought us the Mac, Iphone, Ipod and the US Festival?
6-2 Apple

Better Vacation Spot
Florida or Washington State
As much as I love the mountains, I have to concede that FLA wins this one
6-3 apple

Better Childhood past time
The infamous orange knock knock joke or bobbing for apples
Another no contest, after 1,000 times of my daughter saying "Orange you glad I'm not a banana" I am going with the Halloween favorite
7-3 apple

My favorite
Fresh Squeezed OJ or Apple Crisp w/ Ice Cream
Tough call, but I am going with the crisp
8-3

There you have it in 10 comparisons, the Apple wins going away!!

Very nicely done, 'ShoreFan...

an orange for the teacher?

the orange of your eye?

This is perhaps the biggest lopsided poll since the legendary Fonzie vs. Dren debate in the late 50's.

Couple of comments.

- if bananas are the equivalent of centers, does that make plantains the NBA equivalent of BBD.

- gotta give a player like tomato some love. They play on the fruit side but can hang with vegetables just as easily. Very versatile fruit.

- gotta love grapes and watermelons. I hear a bunch have some seeds in their games but when you find ones without seeds in their game, wow, you can get on a roll.

- would melons have to play in the WNBA version of fruit basketball?

- gotta love how plums and grapes can adapt when they get older and lose their juice. They dry up and become a whole different fruit. Now that's talent.

- in true Celtic tradition the All-Green team goes like this:

C- Watermelon
PF - Honeydew Melon
SF- Granny Smith Apples
SG - Pears
PG - White Grapes

6th man should be the dragonfruit, i dont know if anybody has seen one of them, but they are scary looking. they also make the most delicious vitamin water so they have to be included in the conversation.

Ah, but does it have the health benefits of apple cider vinegar?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I want to go with the orange for the sake of disagreement, but much like Stephon Marbury, I only find oranges interesting once and awhile, and if I see too much of them it really creates some backlash.

However, lets not ignore what the oranges bring.

#1) Keeping off scurvy. Apples are not known for keeping off scurvy. Simple fact. Even though apples can keep off scurvy.

#2) Take orange sherbert, blend it in a 2:1 ratio with milk in a blender. Be sure to drink on a 90 degree day.

#3) Don't talk to me about versatility. Clementines, during the winter. You can't go outside with shorts but on a sunday morning you can sit with a big ol bag of clemantines and watch Miami Vice. Its kinda the same thing...right? Maybe "Saved by the bell goes to Hawaii?" Don't forget tangerines too. They're like the Ben Gordon of fruit: effective in small doses but not an every day kind of leader.

#4) Awesome things that are/can be orange flavored (and better than their apple flavored counterparts)
-Gum
-Rum
-Vodka
-Ice Cream
-Cleaning Solvent (delicious..........

......smelling. Seriously don't drink this.)
-chocolate (chocolate oranges=awesome party)

That is all for now.

4)

"You've gotta respect a 15-percent 3-point shooter. A guy
like that is always lethal." - Evan 'The God' Turner
