Kawhi is the best player in the world, so he must be upset about being a joke in LA compared to the Lakers/LeBron, especially now that the big, bold Clippers move is bringing in Tye Lue. With no reason to believe in being able to compete with the Lakers this year, perhaps he should try to force a trade to the Celtics for Brown and picks by saying an opt-out is coming next offseason (and BTW, might need a lot of time off due to ongoing injuries)?

With Kawhi teaming up with Tatum, Walker, and Smart, an NBA Finals showdown with LeBron/Lakers is inevitable in 2021 and likely 2022-2023 if LeBron continues to model the longevity of Karl Malone. And definitely like the Celtics’ chances in 2021, so it would be a perfect opportunity for Kawhi to dethrone King James. Imagine winning 5-7 NBA championships with the Celtics the next 7-8 years, and riding into the sunset as a player with a bigger legacy than LeBron...

If the opportunity presents itself, the Celtics should jump on the opportunity to bring-in Kawhi by trading Brown, Hayward, all 2020 first-round picks, our 2022 first-round pick, and our 2024 first-round pick. It even cuts $22.6 million to get us below the luxury line for 2020-2021:

https://tradenba.com/trades/O7R2LKywE

For the Clippers, they must know an NBA Championship is out of their reach now, so they ought to relish the opportunity to build around Brown and multiple picks to move on from the disaster that was the PG13 blockbuster trade. This is especially true if Kawhi is signaling opt-out in a year is coming. They would probably follow-up the Kawhi trade by trading PG13 for as many picks as they can get. Trade the remaining vets for picks, and try to buildthe next Golden State with Brown as the first piece of the puzzle. Heck, target Steph Curry in a couple years, too.

The NBA would absolutely love the next 3-4 NBA Finals to be A Kawhi/Celtics Vs. LeBron/Lakers. Imagine the ratings and sales, even if COVID-19 continues to slow things down.

This is literally the best thing that could happen for both the Celtics and the NBA this off-season. If you feel differently, please share a better offseason for the business of the NBA and/or the Celtics...

This is a bad bad trade for Boston. Really bad actually.

Look at what guys like Kawhi and Paul George have been traded for recently. Giving up an All-Star talent, a near All-Star talent and 5 1st round picks is a huge overpay. Also, if Kawhi tries to force his way out of another team I've got no interest in him. 4th team in as many years? No thanks
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)

SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

He went to LA Clippers to return home and simultaneously dethrone King James. It did not work. He wants to have a bigger legacy than LeBron and rightfully so. How’s he going to do that now?

A completely unrealistic post.  Kawhi is from LA and that is where he wants to live and play.  If teaming up with Paul George doesn't work next season, the Clips could go after another star next offseason to pair with Kawhi (e.g. Giannis).

We wont’t get the best basketball player in the world for anything less than a package like that. Perhaps keeping the 2024 pick or putting a protection on it...

1) He isn't the best basketball player in the world

2) Players of his calibre have been traded for less recently. Even Anthony Davis was. Kawhi himself was traded for much much less

Dethrone Lebron?  Bigger legacy than Lebron?  You're just making stuff up.  Kawhi has no chance of having a bigger legacy than Lebron.

Kawhi would have to win 4 rings averaging like, 30-8-8, winning MVPs and a DPOY or two to get close to LeBron's legacy.

LeBron is at absolute worst a top 5 player of all time. Kawhi might be top 50, maybe

Is he that much of a quitter?  He loses one series in LA and then gives up?

And Kawhi's body is already breaking down.  Both the Raptors and Clips have had to manage his minutes.  Lebron on the other hand just keeps on going strong at 35.

I think this is a fun idea and if it gets you a title it was always worth it. Good creativity! Interesting. Realistically I think this is one where if Danny got the call and this is what it came down to the Celts would deny the offer ever existed. Both sides would lie about it. Ha.

Give up all that for a 1 year rental of Kawhi? No thank you.

I love the assumptions that Greenly comes up with to make things happen...first we magically get Tony Bennett, Pop and Daryl Morey, then we magically get Kawhi...I don't even think I could pull this off in NBA2k without cheating

To answer the question, yes any offseason that involves us getting Kawhi would be a good offseason. But not if it involves us giving up Brown and picks for a 1 year rental. It's also got no chance of happening.

Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Hey, stranger things have happened. A guy can dream. It’s a quiet offseason and it sounds like we’re just going to mostly run back the same crew and expect different results in 2020-2021...
