Can any cap gurus help me out here?

If I have this down right, the Lakers have Lebron (37 mil), Davis (22 mil), Wagner (2 mil), Kuzma (2 mil) and Bonga (1,6 mil) under contract. That leaves them with about 44 mil of space. Is that correct? If they sign another max contract where does that leave them?

I assume Davis (22) means the $$$ going out for Davis after July 6 which I think are $24M.
You’re missing the stretch $ for whoever they waived last year - $5M plus the holds for 4-5 roster spots. That gives them a little more than $32M of space

The Lakers stretching Deng's final season will cost them 5M in cap space for the next 3 seasons.  AD's salary for 2019/20 is 27M not 22M.

Bobby Marks tweeted that the Lakers can have 32.5M cap space if the deal isn't completed until July 30.  If it is done earlier, they'd only have 27.8M.  AD would also have to waive his 4M+ trade kicker.

Wouldn't it just be perfect if AD doesn't waive his trade kicker?

But, I would definitely take them completing the deal before 7/30. Unfortunately, neither is likely.

It will be interesting to see if Jimmy Butler, Kuzma (can't believe they kept him and his low salary), and a bunch of vet min players will be enough. Obviously, hope not.

As an aside, I noticed that 2019/20 is the last year Detroit and Brooklyn will be paying for the buyout & stretch of Josh Smith (5.3M) and Deron Williams (5.4M).

Thanks for the info. So whichever way it is, they are screwed, which I like.

They think Lakers/Pelicans agreed to wait 30 days to help Lakers cap situation.  Probably one of those draft picks were compensation for agreeing. It will open $9 million up for the Lakers and cost the Pelicans around $4 million in cap space this year.

SoSH is having a similar discussion on LA salaries. they estimate as follows:

So basically, since they aren't delaying the trade, it's either 23.7M or 27.7M depending on whether Davis waives his trade bonus, Some had thought they would delay the trade by signing the #4 then trading him 30 days after that date, I think that would have gotten the Lakers to 31-32M, but clearly the Pelicans said no, probably to get #4 on their summer league roster

and now this as well from Woj:

For now, expectation is Anthony Davis trade will be completed on July 6, league sources tell @BobbyMarks42 and me. Assuming Davis declines to void $4M trade bonus, this leaves Lakers with $23.7M in space. There is chance that could be amended to July 30, but it’s still 6th now.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Or the Pels may be looking to move some of the assets that they acquired.
