Anyone know if Morris is playing or not? Just took Celtics to win bet lol...surely we can at least edge it..
Marcus Morris will be on about a 16 minute limit tonight per Stevens.
WATCH: Brad Stevens says Marcus Morris available On a limited basis once again. Jaylen Brown, Semi Ojeleye out tonight vs. Rockets.
I never look forward to playing the Rockets, mainly because of Harden and the star calls he gets. He leads the league - by far - in FT attempted per game at an astonishing 10.2 per game. The next is Giannis (who I'm getting annoyed by as well due to the favoritism) at 9.6 per game. Then there's a huge dropoff - the next is Embiid at 8.2, and everyone else is 8 or below.
This may be a big problem since we don't have Brown. We're going to need Smart and Irving to stay out of foul trouble.
Gerald Green signed by Rockets today.... he’s literally there on the bench right now
Smart career high point s

Aaaaaaand never mind.
Did I mention I really dislike listening to Webber talk?
Good look for Smart, hung around on the rim., just didn't do down. More to the point, no C's anywhere in sight for a possible tip in or OR.
Should have called a timeout earlier.
Nice start. 3 minutes in and already 3 turnovers. :-\
I don’t know if it’s allowed but Stevens got to smack those guys.
Nader is in already?!
Nader will fix things. :'(
Couldn't help but laugh at that shot by Smart lol
Harden may go for 40 tonight. No one to check him with JB out.
Brad is going to ride this switching defense to its death, even though Houston has taken advantage of it almost every single time down the court. You simply can't switch Tatum and Horford onto Harden.Does it really matter? Harden is going downhill on the big whether we switch or not.
How do you airball a wide open corner 3? Seriously.
He is matched up with him. But we’re swtching and there you go.Harden may go for 40 tonight. No one to check him with JB out.
Smart but so far, he's not getting matched with him.
I love watching Rozier over dribble!
Nice. 8th turnover. Great job guys.
Bench is beyond horrible.
I love watching Rozier over dribble!
nobody can hamdle ball tonight. everyone has butterfingers
Bench is beyond horrible.
HOT GARBAGE
GUESS DA IS GONNA LET BRAD KEEP EXPERIMENTING WITH THIS CRAP until we get a good guy for DPE
Marcus Morris looks like that guy who plays at the end of Division II blowout games for the losing side.
Fans need to boo them at the end of the quarter
Rozier + Morris is my first trade package.Presumaby because you think they’re garbage. What garbage do you want back?
I love watching Rozier over dribble!
nobody can hamdle ball tonight. everyone has butterfingers
I’m so sick of Rozier... I used to think he played good d, but seeing how that’s regressed he contributes nothing to winning
Fans need to boo them at the end of the quarter
If the starters are going to play like this timid and with this lack of energy, Brad needs to just sit them the rest of the game. No point in risking injury and putting more minutes on their legs.
Let them suffer a spanking at home and see if that puts some fire into them, because this is pathetic right now. It's one thing to just lose to a top-three team; it's a completely different thing to lose looking like this.
Look how Houston is moving on defense they definitely want this one.
So far I've got Nader as my MVP for the Celtics...I think that pretty well sums up the 1st quarter...
Yeah, guys, let's continue to switch the bigs onto Harden. Makes SOOOOO much sense.
Nader is in already?!
ok after watching 5 min we are playing so dumb tonight on both ends tonight. were the starters this bad?
12 points man

Worse.
That was forgettable. Please be forgettable.
ok after watching 5 min we are playing so dumb tonight on both ends tonight. were the starters this bad?
Maybe Houston will get lazy and let up.
We are playing the Doc Rivers get back and don't offensive rebound strategy.
It's going to be a long night!
Morris is just a black hole on offense.
Cs on a back-to-back. NBA is getting what they deserve. Bad basketball on national tv.
You want to improve the product? Make sure teams are rested for a nationally televised game.
It actually angers me Nader is in the NBA.
Morris is just a black hole on offense.
He and Rozier have low basketball IQs.

Is letting Tatum run a pick and roll really worse than what Morris and Smart are doing?
What's infuriating is Brad is actually playing Nader over Yabu.
And on the 8th day, God created beer and cell phones for Celtics fans at the game watching their tired team play 3rd game in 4 nights during holiday week...great schedule NBA
Surely Marcus Smart's defense will start making the difference any minute now.

I'm sure Brad will put him in soon. He's very hard nosed.Surely Marcus Smart's defense will start making the difference any minute now.

Horford's "back to the basket" game is so suspect. He looks so weak down low..

Morris is terrible
Maybe that will ignite a run?
Perimeter defenders just not that valuable due to all the screens and switching in the nba.Surely Marcus Smart's defense will start making the difference any minute now.

Take Nader out. Im getting sick of him.
Haha Kyrie reminds us of Rod Strickland? "Oh, ok pal".
Cut it to 15 and I will be happy😁
The Celtics really should complain to the league office about this schedule, though. This is such non-sense, and it's all so the NBA can make an extra buck with the London game.So I’ve heard this before but haven’t been paying attention. What’s the London game? And does this mean that we still won’t get the rest we deserve due to travel?
Houston has literally played six fewer games than us, but they give us Houston on national tv on the second night of a back to back.
Hmm. Putting Jabari Bird on Harden was a cute little experiment Brad, but I think you could have seen the last two possessions coming.
we suck

When the other team falls behind 20+, they come back within 5 minutes thanks largely to our bench... ::) ::) ::)

No, we have pretty much a second All-Star Break surrounding our January 11th game in London against Philadelphia. We literally play one game in 10 days in that stretch, which is the London game.
That's the major reason we've had such a packed schedule in 2017, because they needed to give us a break both before and after the London game for travel reasons.
I do NOT play Morris another minute UNTIL he loses 15 to 20 lbs. and gets in shape. I do NOT care how injured we are. We have a roster spot. Call up the best G-Leaguer and give him a 10-day contract. Morris cannot jump 4 inches off the ground. He is HORRENDOUS!!!!
I would trade Marcus and Marcus for an injured Vucevic immediately IF they would do it. (That is ASSUMING we realize that Smart is as good as gone any way!!).

I agree about Morris. He doesn't have any lift or quickness right now. Not sure if it is from injury or being out of shape or both, but he doesn't seem ready to play.

The fact that Tony brothers who's standing 3 feet away called that basket good originally is the epitome of NBA referees..

From my understanding, they'll have a similarly tight schedule after the London game as we've had in 2017. However, they'll have a bit softer schedule in the teams they play, where we'll have more difficult opponents to face.
We essentially flip-flop on the types of schedule we play.
As someone who LOVES winter and snow.. it's a bummer to hear the snow coming Saturday night around Boston/Quincy is only a coating to an inch (while lucky Cape Cod folks get 3-5 inches...) :(
BUT looks like we could get a blockbuster storm next Wednesday-Thursday (which is also supposed to bring in some "warmer 25-30 degree air" back in New England lol).
I say all this because this game is depressing me to the point where I'm just watching local news LOL.
This botched fastbreak by Orlando is the only thing making me feel better.

It could be worse guys.
I almost lost it when I seen him do the count it hand signal. Already down 1 ref and basically playing with only 1 as it is. Not saying the Celts even deserve to be in this game with some of the absolute stupidity they've shown out there, but that doesn't excuse garbage officiating. Took us til midway thru 2nd to get our first free throws it felt likeThe fact that Tony brothers who's standing 3 feet away called that basket good originally is the epitome of NBA referees..
He is one of my most hated referee list along with Marc Davis and Bill Kennedy.

It was 84 today here in Los Angeles County ... which probably sounds great right about now to most of you in New England, but that's way too warm for December, and way too warm for a guy (me) who kinda misses Maine winters.
Nader working hard. Got a cheer from the crowd and not the Bronx cheer variety.
Al has been ATROCIOUS tonight...
Marv Albert has no idea what's going on. Ridiculous amount of miscalls already.Literally came here to post the same exact thing.. That dude is cooked. He called Marcus Morris Marcus Smart and then called him Irving in the 1st half. Had me dying laughing

Posting up takes tons of energy than everything else. Our schedule is not helping.

Al might have the WORST post moves of any big man in the NBA!! The ONLY thing he can hit in the paint are alley oop dunks.

What’s the deal with Baynes Theis and Rozier getting less minutes combined while Nader has 21 so far? Is CBF given the game up and treating this as garbage time already?

Brown, Hayward, and Semi are all out. Nader is one of the few wings/perimeter defenders we have, which you absolutely must have when playing Houston.
I actually think Nader has done a serviceable job tonight.
I love that Brad got a tech there. F that call.
And of course no foul for Kyrie there ::)
MM looks really slow laterally.
That is one of the worst calls I've ever seen. That is an absolute momentum killer.

Most of the country is cold EXCEPT California and Florida (go figure...)
But seriously, don't the meteorologists get bored in LA, or even Miami. Feels like it's ALWAYS between 60-90 degrees and either sunny or raining, nothing else really (though Florida does get some hurricane threats in the summer, but still...) :P
Rockets now the ones settling for 3's that aren't going down...or even close. ;D

Smart is giving Harden a tough time on a lot of these possessions. Maybe he read Eja's criticisms at half time and took it to heart. There's no other explanation
Smart is like a flea on Harden..love it!!
Smart is playing some MVP-level defense on Harden. Just all over him. I'd like to know his percentage on him tonight, because it seems like Harden only scores on switches.
This has been a gutsy comeback from the team. They looked dead for all money by halftime

I thought it was going in. He's usually clutch in those situations.
We need Gordon Hayward. Like bad.

True. But I still feel more comfortable with him shooting or driving than anyone else.
The Smart shot was definitely the right shot. Wish that had fallen -- he deserves it.

It was the right basketball play the defense collapsed and they ball was kicked out. Unfortunately it was Smart and not A better shooter on that wing.

I just do not understand how people get so worked up all the time.
We have a great coach, a resilient team, and an 82 game schedule.
Settle down.
I am totally fine with people focusing on the 1 and a half minutes of absolute virtuoso performance by Smart.
I prefer to focus on the 46 minutes of him being beaten around like David Caradine #checkouthowhedied

It's not about losing; it's about how they were losing. There was simply no energy in the first half. All of us were absolutely justified in being upset over that first half showing.
Now they made up for it in the second half, but it was their fault in the beginning that it came to that.
Let's see how much money he gets offered at the end of the year. My guess is the Celts won't outbid themselves.I am totally fine with people focusing on the 1 and a half minutes of absolute virtuoso performance by Smart.

This is such a putrid effort from the Celtics tonight.

Hell yeah. Screw complaining tonight. Games like that are why I love sports.
Godly defense.QuoteJames Harden when defended by Marcus Smart tonight:

Let's see how much money he gets offered at the end of the year. My guess is the Celts won't outbid themselves.I am totally fine with people focusing on the 1 and a half minutes of absolute virtuoso performance by Smart.
I prefer to focus on the 46 minutes of him being beaten around like David Caradine #checkouthowhedied
lol well, I hope you know Brad obvioiusly disagrees with you.
But I mean, if you think you know better.
I take BACK trading Smart and Morris for Vucevic!!!:-)))

yeah well nobody cares about them
Are you telling me he wasn't a huge huge part of why we were down so bad and why Stevens had to resort to playing Nader, and at one point even Jabari Bird? I mean come on. The guy totally checked out and showed up for a half at absolute best. What happens at your job if you show up for half a day? Do people pat you on the back because you do your job the rest of the day? Whatever. He's a slacker who has good timing, and honestly I'm very glad he does, because he doesn't bring much else.I am totally fine with people focusing on the 1 and a half minutes of absolute virtuoso performance by Smart.

Except that's not even close to true. He played well the entire second half. His defense on Harden in the second half is one of the primary reasons we won and got Harden frustrated, even to the point of him taking desperation threes a couple of steps in front of the halfcourt line.
He literally had 13 pts on 6-14 shooting with 6 rebs, 5 asts, 2 stls, 3 blcks and made the two winning plays to win us the game, yet you're still going to complain about him??

Horford has been horrible on both ends in this game. Can't Brad do something and do some adjustments on the rotation? Clearly, Horford is not a solution in this game.

Well.....Grasshopper couldn't even find his own kid after a fire, and the kid (despite being trained) couldn't find his father and Smart can't find a shot or offense, which is pretty fundamental to the NBA, so I think it's a great nickname. Forgotten man of he night: Abdel Nader, who provided some much needed energy when the team looked like it was ready to quit.Exactly
He was pretty bad. Got burned on switches, wasn't rebounding, struggled to score in the post.Horford has been horrible on both ends in this game. Can't Brad do something and do some adjustments on the rotation? Clearly, Horford is not a solution in this game.

Ah I see. So Smart wasn't defending the Rockets guards in the first half? Well. He wasn't actually. Nobody was.Are you telling me he wasn't a huge huge part of why we were down so bad and why Stevens had to resort to playing Nader, and at one point even Jabari Bird? I mean come on. Uh, yes, I'm absolutely saying that, because Nader and Bird never came in to replace Smart. Brad brought Nader in for Baynes to better matchup with Houston, and the only reason they played is because Brown and Semi were both out. Were you even watching the same game as the rest of us? lol

eja, you are really straining here to justify your dislike for smart. it really doesnt make you look good. let it go and enjoy the win please.Well.....Grasshopper couldn't even find his own kid after a fire, and the kid (despite being trained) couldn't find his father and Smart can't find a shot or offense, which is pretty fundamental to the NBA, so I think it's a great nickname. Furthermore.....he was the 6th pick. Helping us win....like all the time...is his job. He's supppppoooossseeeddd to help us win. But usually I just sit here praying he doesn't go one for 35 (where inevitably the one is the last second game winning shot after he gets a steal).

GREATEST GAME THIS YEAR!!
the extra sweet taste of victory came with hearing Chris Webber having it eat it after bashing the C's the whole telecast.
Smart doing smart things lol...
It's an absolute miracle win. Miracle miracle miracle. Divine. For some reason I saw fit to send angels down from the heavens to change the outcome of this game. You wouldn't be saying that if he was healthy. Morris was also instrumental in the win tonight. He'll be a major factor for us once he finally gets healthy.

You know, I've got plenty of complaints about Marcus Smart, but I'm not going to bring them up on a night when he saves our butts. I'm just going to enjoy "good" Marcus for one evening. It's really not that hard to do.

Are you going to be upset if the Celtics don't win the Championship this year?
I assume that they won't. I think the Boston Celtics are a young basketball team that will continue to get better year after year after year. It's a process. The fact that they can stay in the game and win it after such a bad start gives me hope. It means that the team demonstrates resolve and mental toughness.
Unless you are a super team like Golden State, NBA games tend to be close, due to the team that is losing trying harder while the team that is winning letting up. That is why you need guys like Smart who can make big plays on a regular basis. There's no such thing (unless you are obscenely great like the Warriors) as adding a better shooter (but lesser overall player) and suddenly blowing teams out every game so that you never need heroics. Heroics are ROUTINELY NEEDED in the reality of most NBA contests...If he only shoots when he's wide open I would agree with almost all of that actually
Irving plus Hawyard plus Tatum plus Brown plus Horford is MORE THAN ENOUGH OFFENSE for one team. There is only so much offense to go around. You keep Smart on the team if you're a smart GM. Of course, affordability does come into play which is somewhat out of the Celts hands right now...

The fact that they can stay in the game and win it after such a bad start gives me hope. It means that the team demonstrates resolve and mental toughness.
I'll probably be annoyed if they don't get to the finals and make a showing.I guess I feel more relieved than enthused. It's an absolute miracle win. Miracle miracle miracle. Divine. For some reason I saw fit to send angels down from the heavens to change the outcome of this game. If you think this is a good way to play a game or that we can rely on this to get us through the season or the playoffs...wow. It's an outlier. You have never seen a game like this before, nor will again. It's just a thing that happened. The first half is far more indicative of the problems than the second half is of the answers.eja, you are really straining here to justify your dislike for smart. it really doesnt make you look good. let it go and enjoy the win please.Well.....Grasshopper couldn't even find his own kid after a fire, and the kid (despite being trained) couldn't find his father and Smart can't find a shot or offense, which is pretty fundamental to the NBA, so I think it's a great nickname. Cue the flashback.I am totally fine with people focusing on the 1 and a half minutes of absolute virtuoso performance by Smart.
I prefer to focus on the 46 minutes of him being beaten around like David Caradine #checkouthowhedied
Thankfully, he only played 34. And David Caradine always came through. Good nickname for Marcus though -- Grasshopper.
TP. I have no idea why people are complaining about an amazing win against one of the best teams in the NBA. I think it says more about those people and their worldview than anything basketball related.
Why should any of us care that its an outlier? I think we can all agree on that. Making obvious statements isn't going to persuade people that they should be less enthused about this win.

Why is it ridiculous? We just beat a pretty good team tired as heck coming from behind in epic fashion. I thought we were allowed and supposed to be hopeful. Complaining about Smart tonight really sounds as out there as complaining about Brady's first half of last year's Superbowl after the Patriots won and after Brady led the team back from 25 down in the 3rd. It makes zero sense. Smart was a major factor in the Celtics winning this game. Enough with the Smart hate on a night like this. The difference is that Brady is the GOAT. He almost always plays a superb game. He has zero flaws in his game and he has had to win multiple rings with a hand tied behind his back by a league that keeps taking draft picks from him for non infractions and is well known as the hardest worker on his team year in and year out. Smart is a guy that shows up and doesn't contribute in the single most critical part of the game (offense) and then shows up for the last 2 minutes of the game.
I guess I just have more faith in them and their abilities than you. I don't see them as an underdog in that scenario. Why is it ridiculous? I think he's saying that its ridiculous for you to be annoyed for losing a series in which they most definitely will be underdogs.
From your posts tonight, the Celtics could win every game for the rest of the year and you'd be able to nitpick some other reason to be annoyed.
Lighten up, the Celtics won tonight! If watching your team win doesn't do it for you, there are plenty of other ways to spend time.

Post-game Harden:
'How do you only have two officials?' James Harden shares his frustration with only having two officials calling a nationally televised game, saying there were "a lot of no-calls that needed to be called."
Because I guess having a 3rd official would have gotten you 20 free throws rather than the meager 15 you were given.

Nope, Avery Bradley is not more physical than Marcus Smart. Anyone else?
Large physically, and being able to use that size to overpower opponents. Think Shaq.Well Shaq was a great offensive player that wore people down and was so powerful that he forced defenses to completely change, so he's nothing like that. Maybe Mark Eaton or something if we're going to go with strong players at their position.

I interpreted "physical" to mean "runs fast in your pocket" and hard nosed to be "plays hard every possession" and "defensive guard" to mean "known more for his defense than his offense." Took a milisecond to come up with AB. Now I'm being told to try to compare a guard to one of the best centers that ever played who was often out of shape. I mean....interesting comparison. We could do like a Barkley thing next.Avery Bradley. Bro that is so wrong, and you know it.
Why do you hate Marcus to the point of flat out lying to make a point?
Large physically, and being able to use that size to overpower opponents. So your top two physical guards in the NBA right now are Avery Bradley and Mark Eaton?
Sorry eja, you're just being unrealistic and overly negative on Smart tonight. When guarding Harden, he shut him down for an 0-7 against him. He forced the league's MVP into two offensive fouls in the last 10 seconds of the game which cost the Rockets the game. He put up 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and two steals as well as causing those two last minute TOs as a shooting guard. How'd he do guarding Gordon? Their backups? Because at some point that team drained a ton of shots.
The whole team sucjed that first half, a lot of players sucjed a lot more than Smart. But he put it together in the second half and was one of the main reasons for the Cs winning the game. The Smart hate for this game just is not warranted.

I'm gonna take credit for this win with my discipline.
I stopped watching the game after the first quarter, but checked the score again in the third. After seeing we were coming back, rather than turning the game back on, I stayed disciplined so as to not break the jinx.
Now I wish I watched it anyway.
Smart had a very good game. One of his best. Huge part of a huge win. It was awesome. I want to see it all the time. Every single game. Like Brady. Like Shaq.
eja, you are really straining here to justify your dislike for smart. it really doesnt make you look good. let it go and enjoy the win please.Well.....Grasshopper couldn't even find his own kid after a fire, and the kid (despite being trained) couldn't find his father and Smart can't find a shot or offense, which is pretty fundamental to the NBA, so I think it's a great nickname.

Well, I think that this game can be seen as a microcosm of the 16-game win streak: The wins make it easy to brush aside the team's flaws, which are plenty.
Stevens said it best: The streak masked a lot of problems. In the same way, tonight's win can easily mask some serious shortcomings.
And as someone who has often been a Negative Nancy with this team, I can assure you that the eternal optimists can be just as irritating, especially when they take a posture of "no negativity allowed."
But I'm always very happy whenever the team proves me wrong, and tonight's win was amazing; Smart came up super clutch in the last two minutes, as did Horford and Tatum with their 2-point makes. I was pretty stoked watching Harden get whistled!!!

Life is tough for many. Sports are often a refuge for those that are looking for light hearted fun at the end of a tough day of work. I see no reason that one should hold a pessimistic view of entertainment. How often do you buy a ticket to a movie that you think will stink? Do you spend $300 to get 2 tickets to a Celtics game and expect the team to get crushed, while thinking that there are many better ways that you could have spent that money?
I can see how eternal optimism can be annoying, but for me, I don't think it even closely approximates the annoyance of blind pessimism, esp after a fun night of watching my favorite basketball team pull off an improbable win.

Like I said, the ending to tonight's game was a blast. I was so pumped after each of those charging calls!
And I understand the idea that sports are a refuge for many, but speaking only for myself, I guess it's hard for me to see my favorite team getting abused (as they were in the first half tonight), or lose to an inferior opponent (as they've done several times lately), and just shrug it off. Maybe I should be able to do that, but it's hard for me, I guess because I get so emotionally invested.
I've worked hard, though, to be more positive, so I'm definitely jazzed that the Cs pulled out the win. But I also understand why certain folks are frustrated with Smart, even after a win. I agree with the optimists that he makes a lot of "winning plays," but I also agree with the pessimists that it would be great to see him "show up" before crunch time more often.
All of that said, all's well that ends well (for tonight, at least)!
eja, you are really straining here to justify your dislike for smart. it really doesnt make you look good. let it go and enjoy the win please.Well.....Grasshopper couldn't even find his own kid after a fire, and the kid (despite being trained) couldn't find his father and Smart can't find a shot or offense, which is pretty fundamental to the NBA, so I think it's a great nickname.
Well, I think that this game can be seen as a microcosm of the 16-game win streak: The wins make it easy to brush aside the team's flaws, which are plenty.

I think 99% of Celtics fans agree that they have been frustrated with Smart at some point during his time in Boston.
Tonight was just a weird time to call him out. He literally won the game for them at the end. Why focus on the negatives tonight, of all nights?
Other teams can come back from 25 point deficits against us.
We can't ... :(
Did anyone else see coach stevens scream "you suck!"
Lots of injured Rockets and they haven't exactly been lighting it up lately losing three in a row, 2 to bad Laker and Clippers teams. I am feeling good about tonightAhhh. Knew I had a good feeling.
on my first comment i said this is the game in which marcus needs to earn his All Defensive team, DPOY stripes and boy did he respond. This game will put him on the radar for sure....just wow

Good call, he definitely put himself on the map in voters' minds.
