Title: John Prine
Post by: thirstyboots18 on October 25, 2017, 04:03:19 PM
Wally got me four tickets to John Prine’s Dec. 15 concert (taking my brother and his wife). This made me think of Master PO, who first introduced us to Prine’s music.  Thank  you, Master PO.

I'm super jealous

He's amazing

One of my bands covers 2 of his songs: paradise, and let's talk dirty in Hawaiian

Envy!  I'm overcome.

Heck of a songwriter and storyteller. An old friend introduced me to his music. What a gift.

Enjoy.

I remember him.   I am more familiar with someone in the same genre -- Steve Goodman, whose music I still listen to now despite his early death probably 30 years ago.  I think he covered some John Prine tunes.

I don't know much about John Prine, but I remember Steve Goodman very well.  I saw him at Boston Garden as the warm-up act for David Bromberg.  That was around 1977.  He wrote an unforgettable tune named "The 20th Century Is Almost Over" and performed it in that concert.

There is a version of his song Lake Marie off one of his live albums that is one of my favorite songs of all time.  Dude is a gem.

Just got back from my third John Prine concert and I am blown away by how much energy he has.

Warm up act was a half hour set by a young protoge followed by an intermission.  Then Prine came out to loud, enthusiastic and extended greetings from the sold out crowd (2200)...third Prine concert of that size I have been to.  He played for two hours straight.  Wally got me a cd pack...two of his cds from 1970!!!  😉. As a lyracist, imho, he is one of the best I have ever heard.  Can’t wait for him to come back next year.
