The Draft / Re: 2024 Draft

If we’re looking to grow someone into a Big Al replacement, how does Oso Ighodaro sound? 6’11” and 235lbs PF/C from Marquette.

“The ball-handling, passing and touch shots continue to separate Oso Ighodaro from most bigs. His 2.8 assists per game and 67 made runners/floaters are unique numbers for a projected center.”

His 3pt shooting is nonexistent though. He looks like a guy that could play outside if he spends a couple of years working on it.

I wonder how he compares to Queta? He’s a senior, so only a few years younger.

I'm just starting to research the bigs in this class but Ighodaro and Broome both peaked my interested with their stats.

My first reaction / concern with Ighodaro is his size. I have seen him listed at 6'9 and 6'11. Official measurements and weight will be interesting on him. I do agree that his passing and feel for the game really stands out and makes him an interesting prospect.

Compared to Queta they are just drastically different players. Queta appears to just be much bigger and stronger and the fare superior rebounder.

If the Celtics are to target a big in this draft my choices would be to try to trade up for Kel'el Ware or look to Adem Bona later in the draft. Ware is a blue chip prospect who has the size, skill, and athletic ability to be a starter/near all-start center in the NBA. Bona has outlier mobility and could prove to be an asset as a switch everything back up 5. If he hits his ceiling I can see him as a Tristen Thompson like starting 5.

Lots of years lesser players from lesser teams won. Heck just lat year Embiid won instead of Giannis who was better and on a better team or Jokic who was better and on a nearly identical team.  The 2 years Jokic won the Nuggets won 47 and 48 games. Giannis was better and on a better team last year and was better the first year Jokic won.  The 2nd of Giannis' back to back is basically the last time the best player in the league won the award (Jokic will this year as well) and the Bucks that year were also the best team in the sport.

A lot of things need to go right in order to win a championship.  That is true for any team in any sport.  So far, a lot has been going right for the Celtics but still a long way to go.

Wow. With all the injuries to main competitors the Celtics really need to step up this year and take the rings. They might never get another opportunity like this.

The Celtics have been bothered by their own injuries in the past, but this year they’re healthy. It’s time to take advantage of the situation and not play down to the competition.

I agree with Lowe completely on this and would have the same votes i.e. Tatum on 1st team but behind Brunson in mvp voting because Brunson is more valuable to his team this year (that includes Tatum being a better player).  I said that awhile ago on here. The numbers don't lie either. Value numbers favor Brunson, totals favor Tatum. The MVP is not and never has been a best player award.   Early in the year I had Mitchell very high on the mvp list because he was carrying a mash unit Cavs squad,  but he isn't even a top 10 player in the league.

That is fine, that is your opinion/take.  In the past, there have been plenty of cases where a better player from a lesser team has won MVP, it has not always been the best player on the best team.  Jokic is not the best player on the best team (although they are the 2nd favorite to win the title).  There have probably also been cases were a lesser player from the best team has won.  That may have been the case when David Robinson won MVP in 1994-95 and the Spurs won 62 games.  But a lesser player from a lesser team?  If this is how they start handing this out, it will be a total change.

I can see the argument for the best player overall and one of the best teams or one of the best players overall and the best team.  But if you are a better player and your team is better, you should win over a lesser player from a lesser team.

Video Games / Re: What gaming system to buy
« Last post by bdm860 on Today at 02:10:24 PM »
My kids are getting older and to the age when they can play real video game systems.  I only have old systems from well before my kids. I am trying to decide between a refurbished PS4 Pro or a PS5.  The 5 is more than twice as expensive, but is obviously new and better.  The 4 pro does have 4k graphics and a solid processing speed (especially for the types of games my kids would play). There are a lot more games for the 4 and they are a lot cheaper.  I'd rather go the cheaper option and if I need to upgrade down the line just wait for the 6, but I don't want to "waste" money on an inferior system.  I'd play as well, but mostly offline games.

Any thoughts?

A quick google search tells me PS6 is likely to come out in late 2026.  Then maybe the possibility of high demand, or waiting for sales/price drops/more games, maybe it will take a year for you to get one?

That gives you 3-4 years of life out of this purchase.

Depending on your kids' ages (guessing in the 5-8 range?), they might not care right now, but in 2-3 years when they're still playing this system, they probably will care more.

I'd probably go PS5 because I think you'd get more life out of it the next few years.  Last thing I'd want is to buy a PS4 now, then Christmas '25 they're asking for a PS5 because they want some games not on PS4.

I play mostly sports game in franchise mode.  Occasionally some 1st person shooters, but again usually in single player story mode.

Kids do a lot of the arcade type games, though my eldest is playing one of the Harry Potter movie games on the PS3 and seems to enjoy it.

We also play a lot of Wii games as a family which is fun.
