Lakers guard Danny Green on the proposed Dec. 22 start to next season: “If we start in December, I think most guys [are like] ‘I’m not going to be there… to have that quick of a restart, I wouldn’t expect [LeBron] to be there for the 1st month of the season.”

These guys are so pampered and entitled these days.

It's probably going to be a lot of teams though doing this. I mean December 22 is in what... 7 weeks from now? And there were a lot of players and teams even besides the Lakers or Heat who played heavy minutes during the playoffs in the bubble.

But anyways, has the NBA already decided when they will restart? I thought they were planning around MLK day.

Yup. Judging by them, you wouldn't know they had 4 months off in the middle of this past season.

Seems like what happened before the bubble. A vast majority of players will want to start the season

I don't really blame them.

Think about it, in a normal season these players spend all but a handful of months having basically their entire schedule dictated by their team.  They're travelling constantly, training, practicing, etc, so they don't have much time at all for their families.

They just spent several months in a bubble, during most of which they were cut off entirely from their families and friends.  Now they're being told that they have basically two months to rest, recuperate, and have unstructured time with the people they care about before it all starts up again?  And COVID is still a hazard, probably more so than before since it won't be a bubble this time?

That said, I'm fine if the Lakers take the first two months of the season off and try to make up the deficit in their record the rest of the way .....

Does he get his pay docked? Or does he feign rehab?

I think this is wholly posturing and a negotiating tactic.

You're post deserves an  ::).   Lebron didn't say anything.  The quote was from Danny Green.

I don't see how starting before Christmas is realistic.  The draft and free agency still has to occur.  Some teams just finished their season while others finished 6 months ago.  They could skip all preseason games but they are going to need a few weeks to get some players in shape while other need time to recuperate.  Players will need to be integrated into their new teams.  Otherwise you'll have some really bad basketball and an increased chance of injuries.

Feels like overcompensating for NBA record-low viewership in the playoffs.

8 teams haven’t played since March. Another 6 played for about a month. Another 8 played for maybe 2 weeks more than that. Teams are fresh.

Celtics will have nearly 3 months off, which is about a month less than a regular Finals run would give them (mid-June end to mid-October start, not including a full training camp). And then the 4+ months they didn’t play before their 2-month return.

Maybe the Lakers and Heat will be a little tired, but all the other teams will be good to go. If deemed safe to start it up again, there’s no reason to wait.

LeBron should sit out as many games as he’d like, and more. Anyone who thinks he’s still good for the league is delusional. He’s almost single-handedly ruined the NBA.
