If not, he should strongly consider it!  Richard Jefferson is probably the biggest name FA left on the market (well, unless you count Shaq as a big name) and no one seems to want to pay the guy.  Dude gave up $15 million in salary for next season.

It is a very strange situation, and I still don't really know what to make of it.  But there is still plenty of time for him to find a home (and some money), so I won't write him off yet.

I thought he and the Spurs had come to an agreement about a long-term deal?

I do wonder if Jefferson might have a bit more success playing alongside Rondo, maybe get out in the open court a bit more.  He was a tremendous disappointment in San Antonio, but if he were available for something like MLE dollars...  it's a lot like Jermaine O'Neil, "very disappointing" at $15M or $20M is equal to "solid pickup!" at $5M or $6M.

Here is a article with a couple of good lines including a Yahoo! headline, "Richard Jefferson opts of out contract, mind"

Im very surprised that he has a) not signed somewhere for over MLE money... and b)hasnt really been mentioned in ANY rumors whatsoever. I really havent heard his name mentioned even once in any of the free agency talks anywhere this summer. Something very strange about that.

See, I've interpreted the lack of noise re: RJ as being indicative of him almost certainly going back to San Antonio.  Which makes little sense, given how embedded he was in Pops' doghouse.

EDIT: Reading one of the linked articles, seems like he opted out to secure a long-term contract.  Can't see Danny wanting to make any kind of long-term commitment to RJ, nothing beyond two seasons.  Best we could do (assuming a S&T with 'Sheed's contract) would be something like 2/$15... and he just walked away from 1/$15M.

James, Wade, and Bosh ending up together screwed him because it was teams that ended up with one of those guys and still had cap space that would have pursued Jefferson.

Ainge needs to talk the Spurs into a S&T for Richard Jefferson.

I'd love it, but I'm thinking that Perk, BBD, or at the very least Bradley would have to be included in a such a deal along with Wallace.

Something, otherwise San Antonio just lets him walk.  No incentive for them to facilitate a trade otherwise.

Why would the Spurs want to sign him to a longer deal when he was such a terrible fit on that team? If he had been at least medicore the Spurs could have gotten farther than they did--RJ did SA a huge favor by opting out and saving them $15mil! By the end if the summer, he'll get nervous and other teams will get desperate, and he'll end up in Toronto, or NJ or maybe even NY.
