City of God is also pretty good. (But it is non-English)

Two Thumbs up!

I love Searching for Bobby Fischer.  I'm not sure that it would be everybody's "thing", but I certainly enjoyed it.

That's a great movie. Sir Ben Kingsley, Laurence Fishburne, Joan Allen(without a doubt one of the finest actresses of the last 20 years IMO)

The Contender with Joan Allen was great.

If you want slightly obscure try Memento. Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss(from The Matrix). One of the more original films I've ever seen in the way the story is told. It alternates telling you the story simultaneously from the beginning and the end until they converge in the middle.

Great original horror film, Cube.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

'She's So Lovely"  starring Sean Penn and John Travolta.

hilarious movie, some of the best work Penn has ever done.

'The Proposition'

Guy Pearce western, extremely realistic and gritty and wonderfully acted.

'Layer Cake'

The new Bond being Bond before he was Bond.

Great flick, but you have to appreciate the art of abstraction in cinematography. Crazy movie and I guarantee less than 1% you have seen it.

Also, Pride and Prejudice. Chick flick that probably most of you haven't seen, but its ridiculously good.

I will break my posting fast with this thread.

In no particular order
-----------------------
Amelie - French film, I really liked it. You feel good after watching it.

Koyaanisqatsi -- Abstract, philosophy, deep and interesting.

Tenacious D The Pick of Destiny -- Loved it because it was intentionally cheesy to make fun of cheesiness. And the songs were great too.

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavara -- Made to make fun of those old campy creature flicks. Like the ones the MST3k people like to make fun of.
They make no effort to hide the fact the aliens are using a caulk gun or to hide the strings that manipulate the skeleton. Really hilarious.

Anything that comes from Japan is always really good as well.

RICKYFAN3.0 --I have seen The Machinist I thought it was really good also.

Pretty much anything by David Lynch, Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet spring to mind also.

Heavy Weights, great movie.

Heavy Weights has my all time favorite quote:

I was at a weird party once, where a guy had that synced to some strange techno, and it all went along perfectly. It made the animation twice as weird. Very strange movie.

There were some very endearing characters.  Not the least of which was their dog.
