Celts can afford that.

Theis - 5m
Kanter - 4.7m
Romeo - 3.45m
Poirier - 2.5m
Semi - 1.6m
Wanamaker - 1.4m

Those 6 players can be used as trade bait.
4 among the 6 and the salaries will match.

Celts can afford an 18m player.

Except as is usual, you forget the fact that we are doing well.   We lost to Philly of course, but beat Philly and the Bucks.    CBS looks happy with the team and so does Ainge.    I too, would like to have a  quality big but it is not going to happen as we play small ball and believe in it.  Everyone of your trades leaves a massively weakened bench that is one injury away from disaster.     This is not NBA live or 2K.   Ainge is not going to make a trade just to make a trade.

Last season the Celts really needed to make changes at the trade deadline.

Ainge didn't do it.

Celts ended up exiting in the 2nd round.

Philly, Toronto, and Milwaukee all made changes even when they were doing well.

Bucks got George Hill in December and Mirotic in February.
Those two were key players for the Bucks against the Celts in the 2nd round.

Sure we're playing well right now, but the playoffs is a different story.
In the playoffs, we'll have to beat the opponent 4 times in order to advance.
The playoffs also has a slower pace, unlike the regular season.

Ainge doesn't have to make a move now, but heading into the playoffs, Celts will need an upgrade.

There was no deadline deal that would have solved last year's issues. The culture was toxic, and spending future assets for a minor upgrade would have just left us more depleted thus year, and still failing last year

If the team looks like they're a piece or two away by the trade deadline, then we 100% should make a move to fix that. At the moment, though, that's just wishful thinking. If the chemistry stays good and we aren't on the cusp of being contenders, making a move just to make a move would just hurt the chemistry for no reason
I'm bitter.

We could've always sent a certain two faced saboteur away last season via trade.

As far deadline deals go we are in a little bit of a pickle.  If we want a big move we need to send one of Smart, Hayward, Walker, Brown, or Tatum to match salaries, and if we don’t we may not have enough to match salaries for anything of significance.  Maybe we’ll be able find something in the buyout market.

Let's not hijack the Memphis Grizzlies thread, even though it started to go off the rails when someone suggested we trade the pick for Myles Turner.

What the Celts needed at the trade deadline last season was addition by subtraction.

Ainge could have lessened the toxicity by trading Rozier and Morris.

Celts just ended up losing those two in free-agency after the season.

I'm sure the Celts could've have gotten a 2nd round pick for Rozier.

It's unlikely the Celts will get a big man with star potential in the 2020 or 2021 Draft.

That's why I think if the Pacers are willing to trade Myles Turner, the Celts should give up the Memphis pick for Turner.

Memphis with another loss last night to Phoenix. They now sit at 1-4.

Their next 10 games:

vs. Rockets
vs. Timberwolves
@ Magic
vs. Mavericks
@ Spurs
@ Hornets
vs. Jazz
vs. Nuggets
vs. Warriors
vs. Lakers

Hopefully they lose 8 out of those 10 and begin to dig themselves into a hole.

I agree. I think the 4 for 1 big man deal idea has hijacked enough threads. Let's stick to this being about the Memphis team and their results this year

Ideally they'd win enough games to not get into a top 4 slot so they get a pick in the 5-6 range to just miss out on the top prospects in this draft

I don't think we ever see this pick.  I believe it will be dealt, along with players, for a big, like a Drummod or KAT.

Yep.  4th worst is ideal.  Not the top lottery odds, but it would take three teams jumping up for the pick to convey, and if it did convey, it would be 7th or 8th.

Yup, we don't want them to lose too many games.
