Would anyone protest if we used our empty roster spot to bring Kevin Garnett out of retirement just so he can be a lockerroom guy who alphas this team into submission for a championship run?  "LET'S GO M'FERS!!!! LETS GO!!!!!!"

I mean, our 2008 Title team had 38 year old PJ Brown on it.  You can't tell me 42 year old KG can't give you as much as 38 year old PJ Brown.

Would he sign a 2 year MLE deal to provide outgoing salary in the Davis trade?  Then retire again after the trade.  If so, then sign me up.

The "positionless" basketball Ainge and the Celts were talking about, when they signed Hayward and added Tatum, failed because of the new freedom of movement rule.

This season the big men of the NBA are relevant again.

You can't play the bigs as physical like in previous seasons.

One example positionless basketball is putting a smaller player on a big man.
Before this season, you could push, grab, and hold opposing bigs.
That allowed smaller defenders to neutralize the bigs.
This season you can't do that.
That's why bigs are starting to dominate the league again.

Ainge and the Celts need to adjust and upgrade this Celtics team.
Playing small all the time is just not good enough in today's NBA.

I think this discussion is warranted.  The Celtics should be playing better.  They are under achieving.  Under achieving teams (players and coaches) should feel some pressure.

In terms of the cheering and having fun, I buy that only up to a point.  Hayward for example is a veteran who is trying to come back from a career threatening injury.  He is not having fun and it has nothing to do with him being a bad teammate or anything like that.  Even before the injury, he is a mellow guy.  He is not going to be waving towels around.  Supporting your teammates in whatever roll you are asked to fill is a fair expectation but that can manifest itself in many more ways than waving towels on the bench.  Morris expressed in in a very simplistic way but what he is saying is very likely true, just more nuanced than he articulated.

As far as the young guys (Tatum, Brown, Rozier) none of them seem to be playing as well as last year and it is impacting the team.  I don't know to what extent they are sulking about not being as highly featured or if they are just young players that the NBA is figuring out.  They do all seem to be less scrappy this season.  They are certainly less productive.  I don't think any of them are bad teammates though.  I think they are all good character players.

So maybe the starters should be Irving-Smart-Hayward-Morris-Horford, Bring Tatum, Brown, and Rozier off the bench.  Tell them they can start again when they figure out how to be effective in the NBA on a consistent basis.

They're just gonna be like "well we're getting traded in the summer for AD anyways, what's the point of fighting for starting spots?"

If they have that little competitiveness in them where they would stop "fighting" then maybe we should trade them.  Magic said in this comments to stop treating the players like babies.  I know you can't completely ignore peoples' emotional reaction to things but you handle it and do what is best for the team.

I said this in response to another post, we should not be coddling these players.  If they need to be coddled already at this point in their career, then that is a red flag to me.

Brad is ok with Mook's comments. Says he would rather have it out in the open than come out as being from an "unnamed source".

I chatted with Marcus Morris today and he wanted to clarify his comment Saturday that the no-fun issues have been around for a "long time."

“A long time is really more like a week. But, Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline., in the NBA world that Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. feels like a long time.”

I loved how the national media made it sound like Morris said it was no fun playing for the Celtics. With no qualifications.

The frustration from the players and the fans is proportionate to the gap between who we know they can be, and who they sometimes are.

It's the reason why no one got frustrated with the Celtic teams from a few years ago. It felt like they often played up to their potential. This Cs team doesn't, but we all know they have tons more potential.

It's the reason it's no fun whenever they lose, and especially when they lose to teams they know they shouldn't. It's also the reason why many lottery teams aren't that frustrated with their team, and why they are content to simply get the reps in.

I think for the most part, people agree with him. Some fans get up in arms because they think Mook is picking in on their binkies, but if it's the truth, then it's the truth. Early in the season, Marcus Smart said we were playing like punks, then Kyrie made his now infamous comments (funny enough, Smart backed him up and said whoever on the team disagreed with him needed to look in the mirror, but those comments went under the radar), now Mook. I think something is off with a few of the guys and maybe trying to get through to them behind the scenes isn't working.

Hmm a week which was roughly at the apex of all the trade rumors granted no trade can be pulled off until the summer for AD, but I wonder if it’s weighing on the younger players heads and affecting them seeing their names in the rumor mill.  I wouldn’t think it would since it wouldn’t be until the summer but who knows.

Mook was asked about his comments at practice today and here's his response, as documented by Chris Forsberg:

Does no one any good spewing out info to this vastly unreliable media.
