Congrats to him.
Regardless of our rivalry with the Lakers I'm happy for Magic and seeing him back in the NBA in this capacity. He does have a sharp business mind (his work with Starbucks) and I'm sure he will do well.
Also congrats to Ms. Buss - I'm certain it was not easy to make this move.
Her brother WILL remain as a part owner and they WILL be bringing in a GM, from what the CNN article says.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/21/sport/magic-johnson-lakers-president/index.html"Today I took a series of actions I believe will return the Lakers to the heights Dr. Jerry Buss demanded and our fans rightly expect," Jeanie Buss said.
"Effective immediately, Earvin Johnson will be in charge of all basketball operations and will report directly to me. Our search for a new General Manager to work with Earvin and Coach Luke Walton is well underway and we hope to announce a new General Manager in short order. Together, Earvin, Luke and our new General Manager will establish the foundation for the next generation of Los Angeles Lakers greatness."
Regarding her brother, she said, "He is an owner of this team and we share the same goal: returning the Lakers to the level of greatness our father demanded. Our fans deserve no less."
I wish him success - all the way up until they play BOSTON.
The Clippers could potentially be in a state of flux if they don't have a successful playoffs this year. The Lakers "could" soon be the best team in LA again. Wouldn't that be interesting.
Stay busy, Danny - I wish to keep our feet on the Laker's throats for as long as possible because I believe Magic will have some measurable success in this new role.
