Then why include AD?

He’s expected to technically hit free agency, even if it’s only to immediately sign a max contract with the Lakers.

It wouldn't surprise me, it's the most logical outcome given the circumstances. Wait it out a year and see what happens after that.

Well, that and the (seemingly) most attractive destinations for Hayward don't have cap space, so he has to be traded there anyway.

My final guess is he opts in and gets traded before the start of the season.

Oh my how Boston will hate Hayward for opting in. I’ve never seen a guy who hasn’t said a bad word once be so disliked here. Blamed for injury. Puke.

At this point if he opts in I'm expecting a trade

I think opt in and trade is the best case for boston, not the worst.

Agree. I expect Turner and Brogdon for Hayward and Langford and maybe we through in VP.  Numbers look good.

I agree, opt in and trade is a likely scenario and a decent outcome for the Celtics (depending on the actual return from the trade of course).  Once he has opted in, are there restrictions on the new team negotiating an extension?  If they do an extension, can they supersede the $34M for next season with the first year of say 3@$25M and save on the cap or is the only option for the extension to kick in after the final year of the current contract?
