With the 8th pick in the 1st round the Houston Boxers take Russell Westbrook

Excellent talent, but there are also question marks.  I'm wondering if a different PG would have gotten you more votes, but I see the appeal.
Westbrook was a guy I was looking at (for #13) but felt that he would be a bit more difficult to build around than some of the other options.

I wasn't sure where to go ... what type of team to build around him.

Wonder if people would be open to the idea of Westbrook playing the 2? Not saying that you'd have to or should, but he reminds me more and more of Dwyane Wade by the day.

Looking for another 1st rounder.  Following the "IP model", we're offering a 2nd and a 3rd, and would need another later pick back.

As the CrotoNats showed once before, the only way to win this thing if you pick late is to have superior depth.

steven a. smith just called and said HOWEVAH.... IPs picks were 10 picks higher/round ;-)

And unless a team is gonna spend a zillion posts telling us how good a team anchored by over-the-hillers Bibby/Redd/Rashard Lewis/Jermaine O'Neal/Shaq (not to mention Brad Miller).... that superior depth might not work out ;-)

Don't forget Manu Ginobili.   ;D

There are two ways to win:  have elite talent, or build ultra-deep squads.  There's no middle ground.  Teams with mid- to late first rounders are almost compelled to drop back a bit.

I'm going with the a Prime Defensive Anchor, Leader, and All-Time great at Center:

Kevin Garnett averaged 19.2 pts, 10.2 rebs, 1.5 blocks in the playoffs alone - with a defensive
rating of 94.

He's a power forward. He can't and won't play center.

Otherwise, great pick.

Except this year, when he did.

Exactly.

Man played good defense on Dwight Howard, too.

By the time the draft is over, I'll have sufficient players around him to protect him.

But he was just TOO important to my team to let him drop.

well he was the 2nd best player all year of a team that made it to the finals....

(and i wish i could each year go in a time machine and get people's positive reviews of the guys i take :) (having i think stolen Westbrook at 2.11 in 2010).

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.

Sarcasm, you guys. We should all know by now to assume that whatever Wiggle says is actually the opposite. Like those door guards from Labyrinth.

Interesting.  The Hawks pick up an elite player, while the Nets get some nice depth.

I like it. Westbrook has this thing where he can be unstoppable. You could always use a guy like that.

Also, I'm looking to move the 12th pick since I have a meeting that may make me late (or push me into picking during the lunch break). Anyone who is interested in moving up should get in touch!

Especially when I believe it was Who, myself, and wiggle who all tried to say KG would do well at C in a past draft (last year? can't recall when....)

;D

Was tempted to go another way, but KG at C is a safe pick for me.
