What I *really* want is Memphis’ pick unprotected next year... but that’s not ours.

Regardless of what anyone here, or the Celtics brass themselves, might want it doesn't really matter.  Memphis appears bound and determined to keep their pick this year.  I find that concerning given they already have a good amount of talent and probably won't be conveying anywhere near as good of a pick as most people think it will be.

It’s rare for a young team to be successful so they are most likely to be lottery bound next year too.  I’d rather roll the dice for next year, and if it ends up being late lottery in a possibly better draft than 7 or 8 this year that’s fine by me.

Not to mention with the new lottery odd there's a higher chance than past years that a back half of the lottery pick moves up to the top 4.

All I can say is just don't be surprised when the pick we ultimately get from Memphis ain't anything super great.

It's out of our control though, so I'm not sweating it.  We'll get what we get.  I'm just cautioning against having high expectations for the pick.

They’re planning to rest Ja Morant and Clarke today vs. MIL and play them both vs. WAS tomorrow

I would classify the bottom 6 teams by net rating into 2 tiers:

Tier 1, the worst: GSW, NYK, Cleveland

Tier 2: NOP, ATL, Memphis

The Hawks will get Collins back and NOP should get Zion back, so maybe they improve a bit.  I'd breathe easier if Memphis landed bottom 4-5 in the league because at least 1-2 teams are gonna jump, but I doubt they end up worse than any Tier 1 team.  We need the 12 West teams ahead of them to beat them up.
2023 Non-Active / Non-NBA75 Fantasy Draft, ChiBulls:

PG: Deron Williams 07-08 / M.R. Richardson 80-81 / J. Wall 16-17
SG: David Thompson 77-78 / Hersey Hawkins 96-97
SF: Tracy McGrady 02-03 / Tayshaun Prince 06-07
PF: Larry Nance Sr 91-92 / Blake Griffin 13-14
C: Bob Lanier 76-77 / Brad Daugherty 92-93 / M. Camby 06-07

The Warriors should get Curry back at some point too, although that may be too late in the season to make up ground.   I think if they end up with the 4th worst that’s ideal in case a couple teams jump them with the lottery ping pong balls.

Didn't the Warriors say that they were ruling him out for the year?
I'm bitter.

It stinks that you can’t as readily combine picks and trade up like you can in the NFL. The Celtics need at most one rookie next year.

Also: After beating the Heat at home, it looks like the Grizzlies have enough talent to not be a bottom 6 team. Hopefully I’m wrong!

Its rare for trading up to work out for NBA teams, similar to the NFL. For every Doncic you have 5 or six Dougie "McBuckets".

If Celts can get Vernon Carey at #7 or #8, that would be awesome!
