Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns has become the latest public face of the NBA's fight against coronavirus after revealing in an emotional video late Tuesday night that his mother has been hospitalized for the last week and is dealing with health complications from what he believes to be COVID-19.

Towns said that his mother, Jacqueline Cruz, is in a medically induced coma and had to be put on a ventilator.

Here's his video about it if anyone is interested

Really puts a human face to this doesn't it.

Yes it does. Yet some people here will tell you "oh buuuttt the real mortality rate is sooo low, its overblown". You can't tell that to the victims.

Many people only learn from personal experience. If something doesn’t affect them directly, they are not concerned. Those people are in for a rude awakening.

Looks like Gobert completely lost his sense of smell and taste recently:

https://www.foxnews.com/sports/jazz-rudy-gobert-experiencing-loss-of-smell-and-taste-coronavirus

so .....i ll throw this tidbit  out there .  On a podcast last night .   A lady reporter  who has been doing medical news like 50 years has been in touch with a medical investigation  currently  being done by an independent research Dr.  in Germany .  He has been visting 100 s of patients trying to get a handle on recognizing the earliest symptoms of covid 19.    He emphasized to the reporter lady ,  over whelmingly the majority of people interviewed first had strange disappearances of their sense of smell ...which effects the taste sense too.  People reported not being able to identify normal strong oders such as garlic.   Yet ...they felt ok otherwise .

Jeremy Jacobs is worth almost $4 billion. Bruins were last NHL team to offer up any help to their employees and among 1st to make cuts (68 full-timers on temporary leave and 82 full-timers with indefinite salary reductions) w/both the Bruins and TD Garden. No defending any of it

Yeah.  Attorney General Maura Healey absolutely roasted him over it.

Went to ESPN.com because I haven't been there in over a week. Did a quick scan and realized there is absolutely nothing there that I feel I need or want to read. In normal times, I usually spend 30-60 minutes a day on the site. Now....zero.

Doris Burke has tested positive for Coronavirus.

And importantly has apparently recovered, her symptoms peaked about 2 weeks ago. Best wishes to her, if coronavirus took DB it'd be on for real.

Gobert and Mitchell both are apparently cleared and I think have tested negative now. Good to see.

The NBA could look at resuming games at venues in a centralized location, perhaps in non-NBA cities. Teams could sleep, train, eat and play in the same location to minimize the possibility of COVID-19 infection.

Players and executives have floated various ideas such as a sprawling casino property in Las Vegas where everything could be held under one roof in terms of games and lodging.

Others have suggested playing in the Bahamas where a ballroom could be converted into a playing court specifically for broadcast.

Another option that has been discussed is taking over a college campus in the Midwest where reported cases of COVID-19 are lower.

Whatever happens, it’ll be a very interesting change for the record books

In other news:

Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens said that guard Marcus Smart is doing "great" in the wake of testing positive for the coronavirus last week.

"Great. He's great. Great spirits. Joking as always," Stevens said Friday morning on a conference call with local media. "We had a Zoom [video conference call] with the team, told the team we were going to give them their own space to hang out and have fun -- and he told us to get off.

"So he's great."

Stevens and the Celtics were in Milwaukee on Wednesday, March 11, preparing to play the Bucks the next night -- in front of no fans -- when the NBA suspended its season after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus prior to that night's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Boston, having played Utah the week before, wound up coming home from Milwaukee the next day and self-isolating, before Smart eventually tested positive for the virus.

I think this is going to be a "lost season"

for every sport

Even if the new virus cases calm down (downward curve),  I wouldn't be surprised one bit that cases increase again come fall/winter

We are at the mercy of a proper vaccine/antigen

In my opinion

- this season is toast
- Online/teleconference NBA draft and free agency will start in September (NBA waiting until last second to try to salvage this season).  Players signed via percentage of cap (undetermined) vs traditional method
- As soon as proper vaccine/antigen available,  up to 3 months waiting period to see that it is effective

- I don't even think a "full" next season is a possibility.  Maybe a half season a possibility
