I’m sick of everyone acting like Justin Herbert is the toughest guy ever. He could have walked one more yard for a first down and refused to do it because he couldn’t summon the courage. He threw a dart a play later but very clearly wouldn’t commit to doing anything truly painful

Until you’re the guy out there with fractured ribs, it’s probably best to keep your mouth shut.  It hurts to breath, let alone throw a football and potentially get hit.
If he punctures a lung diving or getting hit, would it have been worth it?

To these meatheads who think athletes should play through injuries, yes.  Fortunately we've started to see more pushback on that mindset as time has gone on.
All I know is it's very easy to say "player x should simply have done this through injury" from the safety of one's office, under no threat of being boomed by a 200-300lb super-athlete.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Society in general but especially sports culture still measures value  by perception of toughness.  And judgments are often made based on incomplete information.  I definitely don’t buy the “character” conclusions drawn by this measure.  There are people who’ve played through unimaginable pain who are otherwise not so admirable.  And of course there are admirable people who opt for more caution.  Sad reality is we all want that guy on our team (till he’s done at 28).

He is playing you have to assume he is healthy enough to play.  So if he is playing, then it is absolutely fair to criticize him for not talking 3 steps and getting the 1st down in that scenario.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I disagree, but the greater point:  with the benefit of hindsight, who the hell criticizes the guy for not running for a 1st down, when on literally the next play he threw a strike 35 yards down field?  The "very clearly wouldn’t commit to doing anything truly painful" statement is ridiculously stupid, since you can tell just by watching that he was doing something truly painful.

But, for those who disagree about "true pain", let's take a sledge hammer to their ribs, and ask them to run around and throw a football, all while risking being hit by 300 pound athletes.

He was healthy enough to play, he just had to change the way he played. As Roy points out, he was still healthy enough to throw a laser down the field.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields clarified and apologized for a comment he made after the Bears' loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 when he said losing "hurts more in the locker room" than it does for Bears fans because "at the end of the day [the fans are] not putting in any work."

This is such a stupid story, and something Fields should have never apologized for.

Who feels a loss more, the fans or the guys who are working their ass off only to fall short?  The 300 pound dude on his couch or the athlete getting crushed by 300 pound wrecking balls?

Some fan feels slighted by that comment?  Suit up and put on the pads, then.

Yikes. Tua may have suffered a concussion and is questionable to return.

May be something to monitor. Hope it's not bad

Fans might take it the wrong way and affect the franchise and give bad PR to them lol. After all, many folks can get too sensitive these days.

I mean you have someone three posts up criticizing a guy for not play aggressively enough with broken ribs? Fans have insane takes on this stuff.

Lot of fun, close games today at the 1:00 time. Surprised to see the Chiefs and Bills lose.

Dolphins may truly be for real. I wouldn't pencil Buffalo in for division winner and AFC Champ just yet especially with some of the injuries they've suffered. Eagles may also be a real threat in the NFC along with LAR, TB and Green Bay.
