via New England Patriots:

Mac Jones was named to the 2022 Pro Bowl on Sunday as some of the AFC's quarterbacks opted out of playing in the NFL's All-Star game, set to take place in Las Vegas this Sunday, February 6 at 3pm EST.

It's an exciting and unexpected cap to Jones' successful rookie season that saw him selected 15th overall then seize the Patriots starting quarterback job in training camp and lead New England back to the playoffs with a 10-7 record. He was part of a rookie class named by PFF as the best in the NFL this past year. Mac was also listed on the PFWA's All-Rookie team along with teammate Christian Barmore.

Jones threw 22 touchdowns to 13 interceptions while completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,801 passing yards, as he was a key piece in helping Bill Belichick reset a large chunk of the roster with a collection of talented free agents and rookies that contributed right away.

5' 10" former point guard

Career highlight: 1973-74 championship, Boston Celtics

Career lowlight: traded for a washing machine

That’s kind of a joke.

The Pro Bowl has been a joke, especially since so many players opt out after being selected. I bet if players don't get credit in reaching a contract incentive if they opt out of the game, then situations like this wouldn't happen.

Still, the all time worst award, has to go to Tom Brady winning the Super Bowl MVP against the Rams.

I would rather he opt out so we don't have another Robert Edwards situation.

not really, though my question was fair.  I mean Herbert, Mahomes, and Jackson were named to the team originally.  Jackson is hurt and Mahomes just played.  Burrow is obviously off the table and Allen declined it publicly.  So Jones is at best the 6th option, however Carr had a significantly better season.  I wonder if he turned it down as he has 1 year left and probably wants a new contract and just got a new coach.  Then you have guys like Ben and Tannehill which numbers wise had better seasons and played on teams with a similar or better record.  Now I could see why you might want the rookie to get the shot over the latter 2 guys for other reasons.
