Jimmy Butler's ascendency into the ranks of NBA superstar is astonishing.  When you watch him play, nothing really jumps out at you as elite, superstar talent.  He's not a freak athlete (by NBA standards), he doesn't have otherworldly handles, or a can't miss jump shot.

However, he can score in a variety of ways.  He's strong on the block, knows how to take advantage of opportunities, and seems to be playing with supreme confidence.

Last year he was averaging 13 points a game and looked to be carving out a nice career as a really solid role player.

Today he's in the conversation as a league MVP.  Astonishing.  He has to be the best story in the NBA right now.
Sounds a little bit like a former Celtic we all know.

Our captain?

Don't you dare.
Ditto.

Don't blame me, guys.  I thought that was what Koz was getting at.

Speaking of the devil, is it true we still do not have a captain?

Even if we assume that Butler regresses slightly from here, he's probably still worth the relatively small max contract we could offer him.

Agree. His defense alone would be worth the overpay assuming his offensive game regresses (which is highly unlikely).

He could be another Lance Stephenson minus the attitude. Plays great on the right system, might be horrible without it.

There is always risk, especially with player in contract years. BUT:

A. Lance was a known headcase even when he was playing well - his teammates don't want him back which says a lot
B. JB seems to be the polar opposite - hardworking, tough as nails no BS player
C. Lance is not really THAT BAD, and may still turn out great for hornets. He is playing injured by most reports, and cannot be blamed for the total team collapse....
