Are we really in that bad a position?! We get no shows from 3 out of the 5 starters (KG, JO, and Rondo) A HUGE no show from PP in the first half and not playing the last 4 min of the game. James Jones has the game of his life along with very solid games from Wade and Lebron and they have to hold on for that win after being up about 20? We knew we were going to have to play 5 on 8 this series. If the starters show up for us in game 2 we will go home with home court. No big deal.

I am not sure I love how they are letting the Heat have their hands all over us though. Makes it hard for our offense to get in a groove.

The loss was a bad one.  It was the manner in which it happened.  I can't believe that the Celts had Big Baby in so much as center.  That is the lineup that we always lose with.

There should have been a technical on Jones on the hard hit on Pierce, and a T on Pierce for headbutting Jones. Period. However, you can't call a T on Pierce for setting a LEGAL pick on Wade. The refs had no control or feel for this game whatsoever and they usually don't. I really hope this league has a lockout and wakes up.

I agree EJ, everything could've that went wrong today did, and this team was still right there. Fans are just punking out and giving up too easily for my taste.

I'm rather disappointed in the L, but not overly worried.

They played well, we didn't.

A few bad calls here, a few there. Did the refs call this game well? No. Did they look out of their league? Absolutely.

But the C's defense collapsed way too often on the penetration, espeically in the first half. Last time I checked, the C's had KG and JO in the paint. The wing defenders need to check their defenders. If that means sagging off to prevent a blow-by, so be it. I'll live with LeBron and Wade (their only penetrators) taking perimeter shots.

Rondo was awful for 90% of his playing time. KG was good defensively, but not all there offensively throughout the whole game.

Pierce had a terrible first half, heated up in the second, and then deprived of a finish.

My biggest problem is having to wait over 48 hours for revenge.

No there shouldn't.  He was making sure Pierce didn't get the shot off which is the smart thing to do.  I don't think Pierce headbutted Jones either.  In slow motion it looked like he put his face on Jones' and Jones whipped his head away to get Pierce's face off of his.

I can't believe the second Pierce technical.  The announcers were trying to say we didn't hear what was said by Pierce to Wade.  WHO CARES!  These are competitors in a playoff game.  I understand not allowing them to talk to the refs like that but now players can't curse at each other?

What scares me is despite the only 10 point win we were outplayed the whole game. It's 2 games now we were you could say dominated by them.

Let's not forget that Boston lost the 1st game to CLE last year...then won game 2. We lost game 3, at home, and got crushed in that one. We won game 4, and then went on to absolutely destroy CLE in game 5.

Kg and Rondo brought us home in Game 6.

Not of the woods in this one - even though I am appalled at the officiating.

Exactly.  They won game one on their home floor.  Lets move on and get game two.

I have gotten over perk being gone. I still can't accept the two non-contributors the celts got back. Green stinks and krstic is a total non-factor. That is not why the celts lost, but they bring nothing to the table.

vinnie - i understand what you are saying, though it's hard to forget Perk because he brought so much of what Green and Kristic lack - toughness, defense, knowing his role and filling it to a T, intensity, meshing beautifully on the floor with teammates and all the intangtibles that having a unified and shared motivation bring to a team.

Green and Kristic have no clue what this team has been thru the past four seasons and they don't seem to get angry or competitive about anything - they just take up space and fill minutes. The Celts have lost the fire that was burning inside since the game 7 loss. that game could have happened 20 years ago for all it means to Jeff Green.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:

  • It's all about the TEAM!
For what it's worth, it was a really hard loss to watch. I never felt like we really showed up. I do think the refs helped the Heat win and I don't think it's a cop out to say that. Do I think the Heat beat us fair and square and were the better team today......reluctantly....yes. But I also feel we were at a disadvantage from about Rondo foul call #3 on. Then to take Pierce out of the game on ticky-tack calls as well as one stretch where they gave the Heat another run ending Technical foul with 2 free throws and the ball and a 3 resulted (a 5 point swing on a bad call)...I think we just had about as bad a game and the most awful calls we could have had. I truly expect us to come out with real intensity and determination for game 2.

When I think of the bright side, I think the Heat held serve. We ain't out of it and if anything we should be even more determined than ever. I think they've done made the Celtics mad.

One disappointing thing that needs mentioning though...It's really sad to see a lot of Celtic fans here who's posts I look up to a lot, just bash the heck out of our Celtics and quit on our team like this. It's one game fellas. Remember Cleveland last year? And even if we do go out, lets have the Celtics back and hold our heads high. I still think we can win this and win all the marbles too. Lets support our team like I know we can. There is always going to be things that frustrate us. But don't throw in the towel on the Celtics in just one game (a couple of bad quarters at that). The Celtics have heart and we'll see that.

I guarantee it.
The Celtics aren't quitters. Why should you be? - blind homer

In review of my Play-by-Play, the Celtics lost ground in the last 4 minutes of each quarter and frankly that is where the game was decided.

The referees showed up at inconvenient times but I don't think this is where the game was lost....

Last 4 minutes of the 1st qtr play by play:

3:55 Ray Allen makes jumper 10-9
3:35   10-11 Dwyane Wade makes layup (LeBron James assists)
3:15 Paul Pierce misses 13-foot two point shot 10-11
3:15   10-11 LeBron James defensive rebound
3:04   10-13 Dwyane Wade makes jumper
3:04 Ray Allen shooting foul (Dwyane Wade draws the foul) 10-13
3:04 Nenad Krstic enters the game for Kevin Garnett 10-13
3:04 Jeff Green enters the game for Paul Pierce 10-13
3:04 Boston full timeout
3:04   10-14 Dwyane Wade makes free throw 1 of 1
2:45 Dwyane Wade blocks Ray Allen's 16-foot jumper 10-14
2:44 Nenad Krstic offensive rebound 10-14
2:42 Ray Allen misses 24-foot three point jumper 10-14
2:40 Glen Davis offensive rebound 10-14
2:36 Delonte West misses 25-foot three point jumper 10-14
2:32 Ray Allen offensive rebound 10-14
2:21 Jeff Green misses 14-foot jumper 10-14
2:20   10-14 LeBron James defensive rebound
2:11   10-14 Mike Bibby misses 23-foot three point jumper
2:09 Glen Davis defensive rebound 10-14
1:45 Glen Davis makes 19-foot jumper (Delonte West assists) 12-14
1:24 Nenad Krstic shooting foul (Dwyane Wade draws the foul) 12-14
1:24   12-15 Dwyane Wade makes free throw 1 of 2
1:24   12-15 Mario Chalmers enters the game for Mike Bibby
1:24   12-16 Dwyane Wade makes free throw 2 of 2
1:00   12-16 LeBron James shooting foul (Ray Allen draws the foul)
1:00   12-16 Mike Miller enters the game for LeBron James
1:00 Ray Allen makes free throw 1 of 2 13-16
1:00 Ray Allen makes free throw 2 of 2 14-16
0:45   14-16 Mario Chalmers misses driving layup
0:44 Nenad Krstic defensive rebound 14-16
0:33 Nenad Krstic misses 18-foot jumper 14-16
0:32   14-16 Joel Anthony defensive rebound
0:19   14-18 Dwyane Wade makes 9-foot two point shot
0:02 Glen Davis lost ball (Dwyane Wade steals) 14-18
0:00   14-20 Mario Chalmers makes two point shot (Dwyane Wade assists)

Summary - Boston's last lead was at 10-9 after the Ray Allen jumper. Here the benches were in and Dwayne Wade went to work scoring 7 points and Mario Chalmers chipped in for 4 points. The game was getting away from us and the bench was responsible for two critical turnovers. My Hammy;s momentum carried over to the 2nd Qtr and the Celtics soon had a 13 point deficit.

2nd Qtr:

4:37 Paul Pierce offensive foul (James Jones draws the foul) 28-32
4:37 Paul Pierce turnover 28-32
4:13   28-35 LeBron James makes 25-foot three point jumper
3:54 Ray Allen misses 24-foot three point jumper 28-35
3:53   28-35 James Jones defensive rebound
3:34   28-38 James Jones makes 23-foot three point jumper (Dwyane Wade assists)
3:03 Ray Allen makes driving layup 30-38
2:42 Paul Pierce illegal defense foul 30-38
2:42   30-38 Official timeout
2:42   30-38 Mario Chalmers enters the game for Chris Bosh
2:42   30-39 James Jones makes technical free throw
2:36   30-41 Dwyane Wade makes 3-foot two point shot

2:25 LeBron James blocks Glen Davis's layup 30-42
2:24   30-42 Joel Anthony defensive rebound
2:06   30-44 Dwyane Wade makes layup (LeBron James assists)
1:57 Boston 20 Sec. timeout
1:57 Jeff Green enters the game for Glen Davis 30-44
1:44 Jeff Green makes 25-foot three point jumper (Paul Pierce assists) 33-44
1:15   33-46 LeBron James makes 18-foot jumper
1:00 Delonte West makes 23-foot three point jumper (Ray Allen assists) 36-46
0:36   36-49 Dwyane Wade makes 25-foot three point jumper
0:28   36-49 Joel Anthony personal foul (Delonte West draws the foul)
0:28   36-49 Mike Miller enters the game for LeBron James
0:15 Dwyane Wade blocks Delonte West's dunk 36-49
0:14   36-49 Mike Miller defensive rebound
0:00   36-51 Dwyane Wade makes 14-foot two point shot
0:00 Jeff Green misses 49-foot three point jumper 36-51
0:00 Boston offensive team rebound 36-51

Summary: Boston's 1st attempt at a comeback was thrarted by a Paul Pierce turnover and My Hammy slammed the door shut with a 19-8 run to claim a 15 point lead at the half. This was a horrible basketball stretch by the Celtics.

The Celtics were hanging in there until Jermaine got his clean block flagrant foul on Lebron and after his two FT's - Old nemisis Bibby canned a three to complete a Referee induced 5 point play to keep us at a double digit disadvantage. The Celtics kept the fight going.

0:00 End of the 4th Quarter

Admittedly, I did not observe this stretch as I was so p---ed at Pierce vs Wade Technical Foul that I shut the TV off and went out for a five mile walk. It was the last straw for me. This game could have been easily a 30 point embarrassment. I am not sure that is good thing frankly. The Celtics have to correct a lot of things like defensive rotations to close out the three point shooters, and they must change there offensive philosophy to getting quick open midrange shots with more than 10 seconds on the shot clock. Plus they need to cut down on turnovers and keep their composure out there (I'm talking to you Pierce).
The beatings will continue until morale improves
