I do bit understand why people dont want the puck this year.
Memphis will not let us get a high lotto pick moving forwards so they will do whatever it takes to win moving on.
If the pick translates it means more salary to use in a davis trade.
It makes zero sense for boston or memphis to root for the pick to not translate thus season
There’s always a chance Memphis will fail in its rebuild so the unprotected pick might be great two years from now.
But (1) who knows - that pick might be a high lottery pick; (2) ninth isn’t bad value - a lot of starters and even all stars are found there; (3) you made an important point when you mention the salary. It’s hard to put together a trade for AD where the salaries match w/out sending Smart. Having that salary would help.
With Gasol out and a Conley soon to follow the Grizz are going to be steadily getting worse. Their record now has a lot to do with their strong start when they had both Conley and Gasol. With the two next year they will be much worse. The West is strong and no matter how good Jaren Jackson may become he's not going to get them in the play-offs in his 2nd or 3rd year. Memphis' rebuild will convey a top ten pick at the least
Like Sacramento?
Or Boston last season?
Never underestimate the value of youth and chemistry on wins.
But unlike Sacramento or Boston, the Griz have no core players for next year.
Most of their remaining players are vets.
The rest have expiring contracts.
There's really a big chance the Memphis pick will end up conveying in 2021.
Well seeing hiw the pick is unprotected in 2021...yeah really good chance it conveys
However...
Trading conley will net them a nuce young piece.
Trading parsons gigantic expiring will most likely net them a serviceable player.
They have big capspace. Like max player big. Plus their draft picks over the next couple years.
That pick will get worse and worse as time goes forward. In 2021 at the latest, they will be like the current kings.
If it was that easy why have the 76ers, Magic, Kings, Suns, Lakers, Knicks, Nets and other teams trying to rebuild take multiple years to get good? You are really giving the Grizz way too much benefit.
Philly has made some poor decisions, and made a few questionable draft choices
MAgic had poor management and now has solid management.
Kings are looking just fine, since switching gears post Cousins (couple years)
Suns are looking ofk, had some bad luck a few years back, morris bros set them back a bit imo
Lakers have bad management and some poor drafting and trades
Knicks have poor management.
Nets are doing pretty [dang] good considering how bad prockoff screwed them over, years without a pick. Now fighting for players, have space for a max free agent this year and open capspace moving forward.
