In a spin-off of Jeff's recent article "Kevin Garnett is defiant to the end", where a few of the greats were mentioned in the first paragraph, it triggered a thought of who would take the court in a hypothetical scenario with regards to the best 5 of all-time at their perspective positions.

Grudges, rivalries and preference all go out the window, consider this a game between Earth vs. Mars and you‘re in charge.. of 'Basketball Operations', if you will.

Here's mine:

Magic Johnson
Kobe Bryant (was tempted to put Allen Iverson)
Michael Jordan
Lebron James
Shaquille O'Neal

P.S I was born in '83 so go easy on me.

Let’s hear yours.

Stockton
Jordan
Pippen
Rodman
Olajuwon

I picked them more on who would complement each other. Stockton would be the weakest link on D, but still not that bad, and he's as tough as nails and a heady PG. And when you have Olajuwon and Rodman to back him up Im okay with that.

C - Russell
pf - Duncan
sf - Bird
sg - Oscar
pg - Magic

against

C- Shaq
pf - McHale
sf - Bron
sg - MJ
pg - Kidd

Team one doesn't say a word except the occasional "Way to go guys!" from Magic as they drain every shot.

Team two involves MJ screaming at people, Bron posing for pictures and tweeting he needs better teammates, Shaq saying he sorta misses Kobe, but not really, Kidd injecting himself with HGH and McHale getting an "injury".

Wilt was on a date. Kobe was in court.

I'm in clear agreement on 1 ,2, 4, and 5, but the SF spot is a tough one between Bird and Lebron.  Better offensive fit in Bird?  Or better defender in Lebron?  I'll take Lebron.  If not just for the pending drama over whether MJ and Lebron can coexist or not...

I want Bird's shooting and for the fact that Magic will run the offense (where Lebron runs the offenses he is in)

Bird may not be the one on one defender, but he is strong enough of a team defender with the strong defenders in Russel, Duncan and Jordon.

Plus, Bird is more of a competitor.
