Hello all!

Given we are in the doldrums of the offseason, I was wondering if anybody would be interested in participating in a fantasy draft of some variety. We have run plenty over the years, and they are always a heap of fun. I will PM this thread to some of the regulars to see if they'd be interested, but getting the talk going as early as possible seemed wise.

I am more than happy to bounce ideas as to what kind of draft this should be. It could be historical, historical with caveats, pick 2, current, or anything in-between!

Hopefully there's some interest :)

Draft order:
1. theswitch: Toronto Raptors
2. wdleehi: Utah Jazz
3. celticinorlando: Memphis Grizzlies
4. Who: Denver Nuggets
5. smokeablount: Chicago Bulls

8. gouki88: Orlando Magic
9. Moranis: Brooklyn Nets
10. Roy H.: Cleveland Cavaliers
11. Donoghus: Sacramento Kings

I'd be interested to either help out or maybe even have a team.

My summer was front-loaded with PTO so my availability is much more open after 4th of July week.

I'd be interested but will be out starting July 8th so it's probably unlikely this all gets organized and wrapped by that time.

Without prying, how long will you be out for? We could likely hold off on doing this until August I imagine.

Cool, thanks. I know Moranis had some interesting ideas for different types of draft parameters, but I would be just as happy with any kind

I prefer historical drafts much more than current player ones.  So if we are thinking historical, I'm in, if current, I'll probably pass.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I similarly prefer historical too. Can you remember any of the variations you had mentioned previously?

I think draft lists are the way to go a lot of the time. I'm happy to help coordinate in that kind of manner, and in announcing trades or whatnot. I don't think commissioner work needs to be too heavy-handed, essentially just copying the hard work Nick had done in years gone by

I think one was only top 10 picks. I kind of liked that one as most of the all time greats would be there, but filling out a bench you'd have to go with greats or busts.  Not all that many solid bench options doing that (guys like Shane Battier aren't all that common in the top 10).

I think another was you could only draft 1 player per team of 1st season.  So if you drafted Bird, you couldn't draft Cousy, Russell, Pierce, etc. (but you could draft the Chief, Garnett, Allen, etc.).  And I'd do 1st season instead of drafting team because of all the draft day and post draft trades.  So Wiggins would be Wolves, Kobe Lakers, etc.

I'm sure there are other options we could do to mix things up.

Cool, those are interesting. I'll wait until there's a bit more interest before diving too deep into the specifics of any kinds of variations we will do, or the related discussion, just so that we have a bit more input.

We've already got 6!
