Is Milwaukee the New Template for a Championship Team?

Great article in ESPN, (link below), talking about how the Bucks have climbed from average/below average to top of the league in important offensive and defensive categories, including 3 point shooting, rebounding, transition defense, defending the paint, etc.

A lot of emphasis is getting stretch 4's/5's who can shoot the 3 ball, which opens the paint for GA to attack.  Also coach Bud's coaching given a lot of credit. Seems a shoe in for COY, and there are a lot of good candidates to consider (McMillan, Denver coach, SAC coach, even Doc).

Wondering if we will see more teams think about this in drafting future players.

Would not be surprised to see them beat Warriors in 4/5 games in finals. Just feels like the passing of the torch is unfolding this season.

Yes, it sucks for the Bucks that there are playoffs. If not, I'm sure that they wouldn't give away the title anymore.
Incredible season for them. Huge leap from last year.

I like watching playoffs, but it's also a bit unfair that a team that has shown to be the best over the year can lose a championship in a couple of games during the playoffs.

I understand that playoffs are a common occurence in American sports, but for instance they tried to introduce it in Dutch soccer and it didn't work. Clubs and fans were opposed to not having the regular season champion being regarded as the overall champion. As a result there are playoffs now, but that's not for playing for the championship.

The champion is decided by regular season record and the playoffs are only to win European Cup entries. Also many fans don't go to these playoffs, since they feel betrayed that as season ticketholders they don't have free access to these playoffs and have to pay more money.

Interesting about Dutch soccer not having playoffs. Americans couldn't imagine there being a world without them.

As for the Bucks being 'unlucky', it's possible, but without playoffs, you would see a lot fewer teams coasting through the regular season. Golden State would be a much better team and the old Lebron Cleveland teams would almost certainly finish 1st in the East. The best teams in the states certainly don't try as hard during the regular season - that's why playoff-level sports are so fascinating.
