  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.

Jay King, is currently my favorite Celtics beat writer and the dude who keeps writing the best 'beyond the basketball' pieces out there. This is a great example.

You get stuff like "best dressed", "worst dressed" etc...

I'd probably like it better if I could read it, but I'm not a subscriber.
Thanks for posting anyway.

Apologies, I was going to cut and paste but as I get older the less comfortable I am with just straight stealing other ppls work.

Jay King is a good writer.

But I don't like him on Rainin' J's Podcast. He never seems prepared to talk, and mumbles and rambles a lot.  He has been on less of late, maybe that's why.

I know, same here. I hate it how now you need to subscribe to read certain sites like the Athletic and the Boston Globe (like John Henry needs any more money.)

I feel the exact opposite. He's the only one that ever comes with actual information and there's no way he rambles as much as Karalis. Packard is useless.

IP, you know I'm a huge fan of yours, but this is kind-of a useless thread for anybody who is not subscribed to The Athletic. Perhaps you could give us a couple of highlights  :D

IP, you know I'm a huge fan of yours, but this is kind-of a useless thread for anybody who is not subscribed to The Athletic. Perhaps you could give us a couple of highlights  :D

Best Dressed was my favorite:

Quote
Best dressed?

Winner: Terry Rozier (9 votes)

Also receiving votes: Marcus Morris (3), Guerschon Yabusele (2)

As he once said about himself, Rozier comes through with the drip. With the exception of Yabusele, who voted solely for himself, every person in the survey voted for Rozier at least in a tie. What separates his style, teammates said, is that he doesn’t follow anyone else’s lead.

“He’s always standing out,” Williams said. “You know he’s got the highlight-color swag. He wanna be seen. It works for him though.”

Rozier has rocked shorts with a suit to the Celtics’ Shamrock Foundation gala and can often be seen wearing loud outfits. Even his winter jackets can be spicy:

Yabusele also owns a rare style. His appreciation of the occasional bucket hat prompted Wanamaker to bestow a nickname on his teammate: “Little LL Cool J.”

Still, Wanamaker showed love for Yabusele’s fashion sense, naming him alongside Rozier and Marcus Morris in a three-way vote. What one word would Yabusele use to describe his style?

“Exotic,” he said.

Then he cracked up as Ojeleye, sitting next to him, also doubled over from laughter.
Worst dressed?

Winner: Semi Ojeleye (4)

Also receiving votes: Aron Baynes (2), Jaylen Brown (1), Gordon Hayward (1), Marcus Smart (1)

It will come as no surprise to Ojeleye that he received the most votes in this category. Not one to put too much stock into what he’s wearing, he actually chose himself as the worst-dressed player on the team.

“Nothing stylish,” Ojeleye said of his wardrobe. “Nothing that’s going to turn your head. It’s always just you’re coming to work. So …”
Semi Ojeleye. (Jasen Vinlove / USA Today)

One fact unearthed during the interview process: Morris does not like when teammates decline to wear socks. He split his vote between Baynes, whose fashion sense is bland, and Brown.

“JB never wears socks,” Morris said, “so I don’t like that.”

Yabusele went through the lengthiest evaluation process before settling on Baynes. Prior to coming to that decision, Yabusele briefly considered voting for Ojeleye (“he’s the worst”), but then pivoted to a choice between Baynes and Hayward. When asked whether he had something against the white guys’ style, Yabusele laughed.

“Oh, there you go,” he said. “It’s not even like that. No, Gordon’s got some heat too sometimes. It’s gotta be Baynes.”

Brown and Tatum both decided not to provide an answer in this category.

“I don’t wanna call no guys out,” Brown said.

Then he listed several players who could be worthy of a vote.

I gotta agree with Morris on the no-socks thing.

The trend of either no socks or no-show socks worn with business casual or (god forbid) suits is of the few semi-recent fashion trends that really looks dumb IMO.

Well, that and suits with shorts, but I only seem to see that in the NBA

The best part of the article was the picture of Rozier.  Apparently the players have a vastly different definition of best dressed than I do.
