Mike, your attack wasn't warranted. I'm genuinely asking questions. I freely admit to not watching College ball.
McDermott went 11th in a what was believed to be an epic draft 8 stars deep.
Here is why every attack you get is deserved.
Drafted before McDermott in 2014...
10. Elfrid Payton.
9. Noah Vonleh.
8. Nik Stauskus.
7. Julius Randle.
6. MARCUS SMART
5. Dante Exum.
4. Aaron Gordon.
3. Joel Embiid.
2. Jabari Parker.
1. Andrew Wiggins.
...
You are just flat out making stuff up about a draft that only happened two years ago. So, you're either trolling or you have some sort of a brain disorder.
Mike
That's enough of that Mike. Get it together.
Despite Mike's unacceptable behavior, I'll respond to his attempt at making a point.
As most of us are aware by now, every year, Chad Ford reaches out to scouts, GM's, etc and comes up with his "draft tiers". Tier 1 players are "can't miss". Tier 2 players have a chance of developing into stars. Tier 3 players have a chance of being quality starters, etc. There's been years where there wasn't a single player listed as "Tier 1" prospect. In 2013, for instance, there wasn't a single player listed as Tier 1 OR Tier 2.
Just a refresher for those who might have poor memories,
in 2014, there were 9 players listed in Tier 1 and Tier 2. Doug McDermott and Nik Stauskas were both listed as Tier 3 prospects.
Now, we're still waiting to see Chad Ford's tier rankings this season. I've seen some speculate that Brandon Ingram and Ben Simmons are both Tier 1 players and not a single player will be listed in Tier 2. I've seen it suggested that there will be no Tier 1 players this year... just two players in Tier 2.
The point I was making and Mike was ignoring in the midst of trolling me, is that not all drafts are equal. It was said that all 9 of the players taken at the top of the 2014 draft would have been taken ahead of Anthony Bennett (the #1 pick in 2013). So it can pretty conclusively be said that being taken 9th in 2014 is more impressive than being taken 1st in 2013. And as far as scouts/experts are concerned (according to Chad Ford), Nik Stauskas and Doug McDermott, a "Tier 3-level prospects", were on a par with the players taken at the tippy top of the 2013 draft. Per Chad Ford himself:
In 2013, we put the top six players in the draft in Tier 3: Nerlens Noel, Anthony Bennett, Ben McLemore, Alex Len, Victor Oladipo and Otto Porter. That means that all nine guys listed in Tier 1 or Tier 2 would have been drafted ahead of the top six players in 2013.
Side note: In 2015, only Karl Towns was listed as a Tier 1 player. Followed by four players as "Tier 2 prospects", and guys like Willie Cauley Stein and Mario Hezonja as a "Tier 3".
From what I understand, Buddy Hield is a Tier 3 prospect at best.
So yeah... Doug McDermott going 11th (a tier 3 player) in 2014 might be the equivalent of Buddy Hield going 7th in 2016. We aren't sure at this point. We can wait and see. But if Hield is considered a Tier 3 player, that put him on a par with McDermott as a prospect. Of course, that just reflects what Ford is relaying from scouts/experts. There's still a chance Hield exceeds expectations. There's also a chance he doesn't.
