I am a draft geek.  Especially for football, but for basketball too.

And I can't help but remember just two years ago, I couldn't stop thinking about the draft.  Oden, Durant.  Oden, Durant.  Not to mention I was a lot more worried about the development of Kevinn Pinkney than I was about championships or playoffs.

But seriously, I haven't thought one lick about the 2009 NBA draft up until now.  I haven't pondered what the C's might do.  I don't even think they have a first round pick???

I do know that Blake Griffin is pretty [dang] good.  That's about all I know.

Isn't that a nice feeling?

I think Danny's first round pick for this year is the last pick in the draft from last year, Semih Erden (6 11/240).  He's averaging about 7PPG and 4RPG.  He has played on two National Championship teams in Turkey.  He's only 23.  Look for him to be brought over this year as his contract with Fenerbahce Ulker is up.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
It's a great feeling.

However, I do hope Danny somehow gets his hands on Terrence Williams.

I don't watch college ball much, but everytime I saw him play he has impressed.

Odds are good. Danny has an edge over other gm's in the draft and uses it to find some steals every year.

I feel very strongly that the C's will buy a pick. Teams are broke (Thunder) have many picks on a team (Thunder)that do not need more young players. (did I mention that I think we can get one of the Thunder's picks?) I think we could even sign and trade Powe or Davis and get a top 15 pick in a weak draft. We will most likely lose one of them anyway. Might as well get some value back.

And with the 58th pick in the 2009 NBA draft, the Celtics select....
Jon Brockman, University of Washington.

I have a feeling Mullens may slip all the way to the second round.  He has bust written all over him.

Low.  This is a weak draft class, and the Cs already have 3 rookie-like players to develop (Pruitt, Giddens, Walker).
Celtics fan for life.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, more undersized power forwards!

Kidding aside, I like Brockman. I just would rather have McNeal or Matthews from Marquette.

I'd like to see the Celtics do something to grab Tyler Smith from Tennessee - he's projected to drop into the early second round if he declares.  He oozes heart, he's mature, extremely athletic, and can play the 3 or 4 well on defense - something we needed badly this year.  I think he'd be a candidate to really surprise some people in the NBA.  He's always been more of a pass-first player, so he won't be coming in looking to prove himself on the scoreboard.  I think he could really help this team out sooner rather than later, and if his ballhandling and shooting come around, then we could have a steal.  Before last year, a lot of people compared him to Josh Howard minus the part about being a headcase.  In the short term, I don't see how he could be any worse than Mbah a Moute.  In the long term, I don't think he'll ever be the franchise player that Rondo likely will be and Billy has a long shot at being, but I could see him being as good or better than Posey.

Low.  This is a weak draft class, and the Cs already have 3 rookie-like players to develop (Pruitt, Giddens, Walker).

It all depends on who is available.  they aren't going to buy one just to buy one, but if a player they really like slips there, they will absolutely jump on it.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Pruitt is gone, and Giddens may be shopped as well.
