Our 26th pick is playing minutes every game, our 30th pick (bane) is playing in Memphis.

Why didnt we just trade pick 14 and keep PP and Bane?

Or why didnt we just draft PP at 14?

'21 Historical Draft
PG: Kyle Lowry / Mookie Blaylock / Mark Jackson
SG: Reggie Miller / Jeff Hornacek / Nick Anderson
SF: George Gervin / George McGinnis / Kyle Korver
PF: Connie Hawkins / Serge Ibaka / Josh Smith
C: Clint Capela / Bill Laimbeer / Jusuf Nurkic

Nesmith isn’t ready to take minutes from anyone yet apparently.  That doesn’t mean he won’t get he chance.

Trading the pick would have been amazing if we knew we could get Bane. I am not a huge Bane lover or anything, but we could have picked up a very decent future pick as Nesmith was the best available at that spot for sure.

I think Nesmith still has a lot of potential and I actually love his hustle, but apparently he doesn't make all the right reads. And that means Grant and Semi are going to see all of those minutes, rather than getting real world experience to a guy with a much higher ceiling.

Hey, at least Pritchard looks good.

I am shocked he is not playing. We have no wing depth whatsoever and CBS still won't play him. We are playing garbage lineup after garbage lineup with no offensive integrity (lack of spacing, lack of ball-handlers, lack of passing).

How can he not get on the floor?

PP was a 4 yr starter and is 3 months older then Tatum. Nesmith played 1yr and 10 games of college basketball.  PP is a little more ready to play then Nesmith.  Nesmith has work to do on D.  Once he's capable there he will be on the court.

Anyone expecting anything out of this guy going into this season really just needs to step back and look at this thing realistically.

This team is poorly constructed and before the season started I thought we might be a 7 seed, I'm seriously starting to believe we're going to be in the lottery this yr.

We're not good, and when the injuries start piling up... And they will the wheels are really going to fall off.

Maybe DA drafted him so he’d have a reason to fire Brad (routinely not playing deserving players)
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I'm not worried about Nesmith.  He will earn his playing time as the season develops, guys get hurt, etc.  You can tell the game is moving a little too fast for him at the moment, especially on the defensive end.  PP is just starting to get the feel of the speed of the game. Nesmith is 2 years younger.  A lot of the rookies have struggled since the start of the season. The preseason box scores were fools gold. (Carson Edwards).

I posted this elsewhere, they must be seeing something in training camp that we are not, on the outside as we are. As fans on the highlights we saw of him on YouTube we all thought he would be a ready made Kyle Korver gunner who would shoot 50% from 3 right from the start. Of course fans always think they know everything there is to know about a player based on the little that we actually see, that's why we're called fans

Maybe he's slow at picking up the defensive sets or has some defensive or workrate issues, that's usually the main reason that Stevens sits players. Maybe they've seen something that they think needs more work.

Also keep in mind Kemba is out, when he is back in Pritchard's minutes will likely drop.

Agreed

If it was going to be this way, they should have drafted Achiuwa

He is playing very well as Bam backup

Pretty sure they didn't know it was going to be this way, with no team workouts and having to rely on video footage and zoom due to Covid. Drafting is hit or miss at the best of times, but probably more so this year. Here's how the rookies have shaken out so far, tonight's games excluded:

But it's only 3 games into the season...sky's not falling in yet. It may have moved a little closer to earth for some people though

The Nesmith pick makes sense for the team the Celts wants to be, i.e. with Kemba healthy.

The Celts need a wing with legit size to defend 3s and smaller 4s who can also reliably hit an outside shot.  Grant Williams is not really a wing and isn't a reliable shooter yet.  Semi is too small and just isn't much of a threat offensively in general.

Unfortunately right now without Kemba the team seriously lacks players who can handle, pass, and shoot.  So it's very hard to find minutes for a guy who, at least right now, is basically a shooting specialist.

Meanwhile you've got Pritchard playing in lineups with Jeff Teague and sometimes Marcus Smart.  Why?  Because the team needs the ballhandling he provides to keep the offense operating.  That's not going to work defensively in the playoffs.  I'm nearly certain we will not see Teague-Pritchard lineups in the playoffs.  If we do, that's a problem.

Man, you guys have gotten impatient.

Pritchard is playing because he was an NBA-ready college senior.  Nesmith only had about a year and a half of college ball and isn’t nearly the same type of finished product.

He can’t defend yet and doesn’t know where to be when he gets on the court.  I’m glad he can shoot, but he needs to learn the rest of his responsibilities too.  Game 3 of the dude’s rookie season isn’t the right time to question why we drafted him or call for the coach’s head because he isn’t getting playing time.  S**t.
