If the Lakers pick drops out of the top 5, in this lottery, then it goes to Phoenix. If that happens and they strike out in free agency then the Lakers are in really bad shape. Things are looking up in terms of non destination cities competing in the open market because social media makes building an individual brand less dependent on being in a big market.

It goes to Philly.  They got it in the MCW-Brandon Knight trade.

That's right. Philly by way of Phoenix.

If they (and it looks like they will) get a top 4 pick, they're going to draft a really good and possibly a cornerstone player. As long as they sign the right free agents they'll have a decent team. They are still in the West so I can't see them overtaking anyone.

Celts have more options, but they still have to make the right moves.

If the Lakers do land Rondo and maybe Love this offseason, the Lakers will absolutely compete for a title next year. I doubt Love will leave Cleveland but even a lineup of Rondo, Kobe, Randle, Okafor and let's say Leonard or whoever they pick up is a far better team then the Celtics. If we make the playoffs, we can kiss any chance of drafting an impact player and we will probably see mediocre for several years.

I wish somehow some way we could get Wiggins and Davis, imagine the Celtics with Thomas, Smart, Wiggins, Davis and whoever we can get at center. Wishful thinking but I could see a dynasty.

For the Love of everything, the Lakers cannot sign Rondo and Love this offseason, unless Rondo is willing to take a paycut from his current salary, nevermind the max deal he wants.  Maybe Rondo will go there, maybe Love will go there, but they will not both go there this year.  People here need to stop worrying about the Lakers.  Until Kobe is gone, they cannot massively improve that team.

That's exactly my point. One of those is shown during the playoffs. One of them features a backwards jersey. I wonder how many Celtics fans know which player on the roster right now is the "Pizza Guy"?

In a soon to be released story excerpted on the SI site:

"The tide has turned in Los Angeles. Once considered the No. 1 destination for NBA free agents, the Lakers have struggled in recent years to find marquee players to pair with star Kobe Bryant.

Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes, who played alongside Bryant for two seasons with the Lakers, has a theory about his former team’s recent rut.

The common misconception is that players cower at the idea of playing with Kobe due to his ultracompetitive nature, says Barnes. But the onus is actually on the front office, Barnes recently told SI.com's Chris Ballard for an upcoming feature story.

The reason people don’t want to go to the Lakers is because of managemen
t,” Barnes tells SI.com. “Kobe can be the scapegoat all they want but if you play hard, Kobe likes you. And if you bulls--- around, he doesn’t. It’s plain and simple. He’s not a vocal leader. He just expects you to play as hard as you can every minute on the court, like he does.”  ..."

```
I said as much in an earlier post in this thread.  All the BS fantasies/fears about the Lakers somehow drawing all this talent like a magnet is no longer the way the world is.  OTOH, guys coming to the Cs are getting their careers rejuvenated, the Cs have a far better ownership/GM/head coach situation (Lakers ranked 28th of 30 teams), and we've got better talent and picks (Lakers lose two future firsts starting either this year or more likely next). Lot of teams have money to spend so why does a player jump at the opportuity to go with the Lakers (or the Knicks which has Dolan running the show).
These are not the guys we are competing against in the near future in the quest to attract talent.
Probably lakers assuming they end up with a top 4 pick.
They'll have something like rondo, Kobe, Kevin love, Julius randle and whoever they draft top 4... Or they can trade the pick or randle for another all-star.
Boston has lots of mediocre future picks and a better foundation of role players but this is a game of superstars and the Lakers will have an easier time acquiring them.   Draft and free agency is on Lakers side.  For all that's mentioned about bostons picks, how many of them would you need to package together to get a top 4?    This year it's looking like we will have 15 + 26.  Will take a lot more than that.  If a superstar becomes available through the draft, free agency or trade market, the Lakers seem better positioned.
There is this guy is this blog who was arguing for two months before the trade that RR is a PG that has no impact whatsoever on a team's W/L record.
You guys should meet up and discuss things  :P
Fixed  :)
Apparently, Philly's tankster went pretty well this year...
Traded MCW, Shved and KJ, have no player of notice other than Noel, still managed to make 18 wins... I remember people making bets at the start of the season they would not top 10, hell 5 wins...
If LAL lose their pick to Philly, that will be BIG
