As the NBA tightened coronavirus protocols to try and preserve a season teetering amid positive tests, thinning rosters and game postponements, the league made a dramatic change that most franchises had wanted all along: The closing off of rooms to non-team guests in road hotels.

The NBA and National Basketball Players Association on Tuesday reached agreement on several more revisions to policy, including the league further limiting movement for players and staffs on road trips. The league is no longer allowing players and staff to leave hotels for non-team activities, as well as eliminating visitors to hotel rooms, which one GM had told ESPN had been "the Mack-truck driving through all our protocols."

Players were previously allowed to have up to two guests in hotel rooms, including those who were family members and longstanding personal friends.

What does this mean exactly?

There's no way this season can just keep going as multiple teams rack up postponements. The Sixers have already played like 2 games in a row with limited players and considering the season's already shortened a bit, these things matter in the standings.

I'd be surprised if games are being played this weekend and next week. Feels like a pause is coming.

I imagine the visitors to hotel rooms are escorts/strippers. We'll just call this the James Harden rule.

I wonder if the league is putting plans in place for a possible playoff bubble?

owners don't want to pay. Plus players also would have to give up additional portion of their salary

everyone loses .... though it would be a safer environment

I think you also have to consider television and radio in all of this. Will ESPN, TNT, and ABC want to deal with possible game cancellations and constantly rescheduling programming that most people will not see. It's these networks that are paying the owners.

BTW, why would the players have to give up salary, if they play in a bubble in the playoffs?

I really think that would make the most sense. I mean, how much money can they really be making from all these games with no fans?

All I know is there were no game postponements in the bubble. The league hasn't even gone through the first month of this season, and there have already been multiple games and teams affected. It's one thing to postpone regular season games, but it's something completely different when it comes to the playoffs. Also, if fans aren't allowed in the arenas, what difference does it make if a team plays at home?

BTW, I'm not saying the league should have a playoff bubble. I'm just wondering if they're talking about it and making plans now, in case it's needed.

Now postponed per ESPN.  I updated the title.

Friday's game is now "uncertain" per Woj.

Nba messed up by not allowing 2 more two way players at the beginning of the season

They should do that now

And not have it affect cap/luxury tax

I completely agree.  They should have an alternative roster of 5 players that practices by themselves and is social distanced from the rest of the team so they can't be included in contract tracing.  G league guys or street FA's like IT that practice and can be called upon at any time.  Minimum deals that don't affect the salary cap for this year.
Why? So that times like these the Celtics could have a G League caliber or worse team playing against fully healthy NBA teams? That's not NBA basketball. That's Globetrotters vs Washington Generals type stuff.

No thank you. I would rather the games be cancelled and played later with our healthy regulars

I really wanted to see Orlando play and give them a loss or couple of losses including Friday’s game.  I want to check out Fournier and particularly Gordon.  Scout out potential mid season trade targets.
