Last night Rozier had 11 assists. I can't remember a single one of them.

This has happened a few times with him these playoffs. I'll check the box score and be shocked he had more than 2 assists and the number will be 8 or 9. Am I not paying attention or is this just a function of him playing the PG position in an offensive system that has a lot of movement off the ball that leads to catch-and-shooting? Because I still don't think he's a very good distributor.

EDIT: This is not meant to be a Rozier-bashing post, I'm honestly trying to get some feedback on something I'm confused about.

I remember one really good bounce pass from the baseline to a cutter last night, besides that nothing really stands out.  I think a lot of it (but not all) is him benefiting from the system.

In fairness, most of us have blocked out what happened last night. Games three and four are one giant  repressed memory for me.

To answer your question, Rozier gets his assists in the flow of the offense. It’s very rare that he makes Rondo-esque  passes.

Of even just the kind of big man lobs out of the pick and roll or cross-court bullets Smart will make from time to time.

I had the exact same reaction last night.  I remember at one point I pulled up the box score expecting to see something like 9 points, 3 rebs, and 2 assists and he had like 16-6-9 at that point and I almost fell out of my chair.

Terry Rozier lead my "expletives directed at the TV" category by a pretty comfortable margin last night, but maybe his repeated defensive lapses and the horrible "switching him on to LeBron on every play" scheme made me forget about anything remotely positive he did on offense (his shot selection was a major source of angst too).

He penetrates the paint and finds an open player when they converge on him.

As a viewer, I'm a lot more aware of Marcus Smart's assists.  He may not rack them up, but he earns them.  Terry definitely does fly under the radar to me, not saying he doesn't earn 'em tho.

I'm not sure Rozier is a great passer...probably the weakest part of his game. He's a scorer. and excellent rebounder. He misses a lot of entry lobs to Horford. Whereas with Smart, he can get in the lane and throw those lobs.
