Noah has giant hands. 10 and 3/4" same size as Gronk.  It doesn't mean your good at basketball,  Brown and Tatums hands are on the smaller side for ballers.

Check the highlights of Noah and you see that the giant hands make a big difference for dunking on people.

Noah has been bouncing around the league for quite a bit.  He's a journeyman big but the big men sometimes take longer to develop.  Who knows maybe the light comes on for him with the Celtics?

He was a top 10 pick when he came out so some scouts definitely liked him when he first came out.

Draft scouting report:
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1995806-best-case-worst-case-nba-projection-for-indiana-star-noah-vonleh

So his projected upside was a stretch 4 Harrison Barnes or Chris Bosh type.  He hasn't reached those heights yet, but I guess he's worth a punt isn't he?

report on signing:
https://www.celticsblog.com/2022/8/1/23288064/celtics-sign-noah-vonleh-to-deal-to-compete-for-a-roster-spot

So who you got as the 3rd big behind Horford and Williams?  Are you in the Kornet camp or the Vonleh camp?

Only played one yr at Indiana and mailed in the last part of the season. He has talent but always seemed motivation was a problem. Juwan Morgan was better at IU but Vonleh had way more upside. If I were 26 getting a chance with the Celtics and even one ''small NBA'' contract has me set for life I would be motivated. I see more rebounding and defense as his way to be productive.

Does he do anything but dunk?  I guess Robert Williams doesn't do much else either.  Vonleh seems to have the body and athleticism for the NBA.  If he is willing to take his defense seriously, he should be able to make the team and be a decent insurance big.  His track record for maintaining the drive to be an NBA isn't good but this Celtics team should be a good environment for him.

I used to never be able to tell Marquis Chriss, Vonleh and Bobby Portis apart.

Coming out of college, I remember he envisioned himself as a stretch 4, and I believe went so far as to tell teams he wouldn’t play center.  But he was never very good at shooting threes, so if he’s learned he should be a center and just dunk, that’s actually an improvement!

Keith Smith says there are playing time rules for foreign players in China that likely limited Vonleh's minutes there last year.

Ah, good ol' Marquis Chriss. We really need a thread titled "Top 5 picks that nobody had thought of as top 5 until they got really hot right at the end of the season and got tons of media and GM coverage." Kris Dunn, we hardly knew ye.

Noah Vonleh played 22.8 MPG in 28 games in China last year. Playing time rules for non-domestic players likely kept his minutes down. But he still averaged:

14.4 PPG
9.2 RPG
1.8 SPG
1.3 BPG

Really important? He shot 38.8% from three on 116 attempts. Still only 26 years old too.

This is good background.  I would rather he not think of himself as a 3pt shooter.  Dunks and good defense is what we need out of him.  That is what will get him a spot on the roster.  If he uses the training camp to prove he can shoot 3s he probably doesn't make the team.  Play good defense and play within your self on offense and he makes the team.

Chriss and Dunn were still picked after Dragan Bender.

I remember many people on here were praying for the C’s to draft Bender. Thank god Danny passed.
