We're coming down to the last hours of the decision of the 2016 Olympics.  Where do you guys want it to be?  Chicago is a strong favorite, but Rio de Janeiro might be the top pick since it the country, all of South America, has never hosted an Olympics.  Tokyo and Madrid are also on the mix.

What do you guys think of the financial aspect of this decision.  Can Chicago afford an olympics there?  What about the other cities?  What are the benefits?  What's bad?  Please, post your thoughts.

I just want it on this side of the Earth.   I hate the tape delay.

I really don't care if it is in Chicago.  I am still not going.

I'd rather have it in Rio. Don't have to worry about a tape delay and the US taxpayers don't need to pay for a meaningless event. Plus we just had Atlanta in 1996 and Salt Lake in 02. We can't get greedy.

I was surprised too.  Maybe the polls on the Chicago whiners may have played a role on this.  Rio and the whole country have been prepared for this for years now, everybody's on board.  When you have residents of the city not wanting the Olympics there, it's not a good PR move.

There's never been an Olympics in South America.  I say, host it there.  That seems more in the Olympic Spirit, rather than giving it to the richest city.

The thing is, until now there had never really been a city to host the Olympics in South America, a place big enough, with the financial infrastructure and stable enough to host the Olympics.  Now we have the chance, let's give it to them.

Now that Chicago's out, I'm hoping Rio gets it.  Would be cool to see an Olympics in South America.  Plus, they're only an hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time Zone.

If Rio gets it, it will mean we will get to see the summer olympics in the winter, right?

Does that mean there will be no NBA players?

Interesting question so I just checked.  The proposed dates for Rio would be Aug. 5 thru Aug. 21 so NBA players could still go.

I guess its too unlike when Sydney had it in 2000.

I hope it's Rio too.  But South America and the Olympics together make me think of WC Fields in Million Dollar Legs.

Woohoo!!!  Being Brazilian, I must admit, I cried when I got the news.  Rio de Janeiro is a beautiful city and I think this will be absolutely great not just for Olympics, but for the country as a whole.
