When you hoard your assets for one player and one player alone do you have to at least know that the player will not totally reject your advances. There has to be some intelligence that does not violate the tampering rules otherwise it is ridiculous to place your franchises fortunes on hold for a player that may not share your interest. Why did he wait years for a player that was never coming.

If we know one thing about Danny Ainge, it's that he does his due diligence.

So at some point there must have been mutual interest by AD, right? I mean why go all in like Danny did (or did  he) without knowing that there was a shared interest?

Should there be some regulation about conflict of interest involved in Klutch Agency and LeBron James teams.

You say thread, but he failed here. There is no two way about it. So what exact due diligence did he do?

Due Diligence:

1. Asking NO what they would need to trade AD to Boston
2. Asking AD and his reps what he would need to stay in Boston long-term
3. Asking Kyrie if he would re-sign in the case of an AD acquisition
4. Considering the long-term ramifications of trading for AD and only having one year of his services
5. Considering the injury histories of Kyrie and AD

Due Diligence:

1. Will AD be willing to sign a long term deal with Celtics when he becomes a Free Agent or seeks a trade out of NO.

Did he do that due diligence when he passed up deal after deal just so he could be ready for a player that was probably NEVER coming?

Danny didn't trade for Davis so he must not have done his due diligence is a false equivalent. Ainge did his due diligence and decided making the move was not in the best interest of the Celtics.

Ainge gets involved in just about every big trade that could be happening. Heck, there were reports he was talking to Houston, when the Davis deal was still an ongoing thing. Obviously, he was looking at other options, i.e. doing his due diligence.

As I said above, it is very likely Danny contacted AD's reps to find out this info. I think the simple truth is AD didn't want to be in Boston. Not much you can do after that, unfortunately.

Also, it's against league rules for Ainge to talk to Davis without permission so that type of due diligence can't be done.

You ask this question as if anybody on this forum has the slightest clue how much “due diligence” our FO put in on this.

We have so little information on the process that it’s not even worth speculating.

Fair. I agree with what you said earlier: Danny didn't trade for AD and Danny didn't do his "due diligence" is a false equivalent.

You do not WAIT three years for a player that is not coming. I am not talking about due diligence he did in the last six months. I am talking about due diligence he did when he decided that it was Davis or bust, which if you follow these blogs everyone seems to think he made years ago.

Has Danny ever said that his entire goal was to trade for AD? It seems like he's just been keeping the assets in case the right situation arises, and people decided a year or two ago that it must be AD.

Clearly AD was not the right opportunity  (had Hayward not broken his leg, that would likely be a different story), and while it turns out Kawhi probably was the right opportunity, there were huge reasons to be wary of that trade at the time
I'm bitter.

Its more like if AD was never coming to Boston then Danny did not do is due diligence. Its like saving all your assets for a LeBron  who never considered playing for the Celtics.
