I haven't really seen much conversation here about Sullinger as a draft choice. His back issues have made him slip, but I still see him averaging 10pts and 6rebs right out of the gate, which could make him a steal at 21 or 22.

Share your thoughts.

You haven't been reading much CelticsBlog forums then.

Here are few threads:

Many more discuss him in great detail in more general draft discussions.

As for my own opinion, I'd be delighted if he fell to us. I think his floor is Glen Davis and his ceiling is an borderline all-star guy on his best years (David West type).

His back is a big unknown, but in the 20s his level of talent is worth a shot.

Agreed with your comparisons.  I think the best of Glen Davis as his floor though, when he wasn't so worried about his jumper and was willing to mix it up in the paint.  I don't think Sullinger will have any delusions with his role and should be a better low post scorer and rebounder.

Overall his "floor" numbers would be similar to Davis, so I agree witht he comparison.

Would be easier for me to be on board with Sullinger , if it was ANYTHING but a "BACK" issue.... ::).....anybody old enough to have ever had back issues knows what I'm talking about. TO ALREADY have issues 20-30 years before most people start to get them is just NOT GOOD.  NBA life is HARD and if his back is marginal or has issues already at this young age , then the NBA will certainly speed that wear and tear up. Making him very old before his time.

He may play good 4 games , 4 months , or four years .  So if you take him..... expect long periods of DOWN TIME., is this going to upset you ?

Threads of "WILL SULLINGER ever BE BACK "  I can see em now.  Will he be able to play up to his first 4 games or first 2 years ? I see anothe Amaire in the future.  But maybe he'll be good for 2-4 years ...its a gamble.

If it was ANYTHING but a back , I'd be pitching for him....

Also .... his issues MAY make him timid and play with less intensity then he could trying to save himself.

IF you draft him ...have to think SHORT TERM career .

I'd say his floor is Sean May and his ceiling is Carlos Boozer.

but wouldn't you take that at 21 or 22.  Even Sean May is a 16/9 per 36 player for his career, which I think most teams wouldn't mind at 21 or 22 in the draft.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Absolutely.

Forget 21/22, I'd take that caliber talent in the low to mid lottery (7-12 range). Happy to trade both picks to move up to take Sullinger if necessary.

seen every game he has played at OSU. Kid is a really smart basketball player. He should have been playing the 4 here in Columbus but Matta didn't think he could guard the 4. So he was an undersized 5 at OSU

He took a beating down low this past year from Big Ten teams. He is very good rebounding and scoring from the post. Has to improve the midrange game and has to be ready to defend the 4. There are no issues about his work ethic at all

I personally think the back issue is not a big deal. And if Boston has a chance to get him at 21...it is a steal

If he falls to us I'd take him without thinking twice...EXCEPT... if Moultrie and Perry Jones both fall to us (somehow). Otherwise take him for sure.

If he's just out of reach and available for a first plus cash considerations/a second, take the offer.

If he's far above us, leave him. Nope to both firsts. Nope to a first and a future first. Nope to a first and Jajuan. etc. etc.

No thanx he is undersized with no bunnies. The C's don't get rebounds because of the way they play not because of the players. Plus getting a player who is not a center wont put us as a number 1 rebounding team as the rest of the positions are pretty much filled.
