That is the amount the Curse Jersey sold for.

Good for the Jimmy Fund.  I think it was a great thing that the Yankees did.  That's a lot of money for the Sox charity.  Classy move.

Nice move by the Yankees.  Pretty crazy to think of the amount of money that whole thing cost (digging it up and the cost it sold for etc...).
Yup

its absurd that someone would pay that for a jersey...but i keep telling myself the person wasnt really paying for the jersey but instead the donation to the jimmy fund.  great for him, great for the charity, great for the sox and yankee's for doing that.

I am curious to see who the buyer was, I was looking over their past purchases (sounds kind of creepy) and they had some very unique, expensive memorabilia purchases.

I looked at some of the other items the guy had won and without a doubt he's a collector (recently won Michael Jackson's red jacket).  My guess is, is that he'll pass on the chance to go on the field before the game, but who knows.

The bottom line is - the Jimmy Fund is the big winner and the Yankees (who really had to remove the jersey if you think about it) who could have donated it to a NY charity, but instead proved that it has a great PR team.

Blues Traveler had a song called "Won't Mean A Thing In A Hundred Years" which comes to mind.  Great bit of charity, but I can't see this having a whole lot of long term memoribilia value.
Yup

Here's the link to the winning bid

It could have had the guy kept his mouth shut for 20 years and then they dug it up.

I find it mildly amusing that the auction has a little sticker on it that says "free shipping" - like that would entice one to buy it...

haha...especially since they arent even shipping it, since they are presenting it to the buyer on the field at a game (unless he doesnt want to...)

If the guy has that much cash he should buy up a luxury box at the new Yankee Stadium and bring the dug up shirt there every game.
Yup

I think the "curse" was effecting Ortiz more than it was the Yankees.  Since the jersey has been dug up, Ortiz has broken out of his slump, and the Yankees are in third place.

Can't believe that thing brought so much. When I first saw it on the news that it was being auctioned, I couldn't picture anyone bidding on it, I envisioned a bid under $10,000, to pay that much for it is insane, it is so valueless. Hopefully he really just wanted to donate to a great charity.

I looked into some of the other stuff the buyer had bought, and its full of hilarious items, like a puff daddy and the family tour jacket, michael jackson jacket, mc hammer platinum record, anything Kenny Rogers has ever owned.

Im thinking this guy might be the hard rock cafe?

The bid from Kevin Meehan, the owner of Imperialcars.com in Mendon, Mass., was the highest of 282 for the battered No. 34 David Ortiz jersey.

Meehan said he was eager to give to the Jimmy Fund because his father died of cancer and his stepfather has the disease.
