They definitely aren't mutually exclusive: enjoying this season and pretending to be your favorite team's GM. Let's be honest here- online blogs are the best forum to nerd out about a team's future, especially if you don't see this year's version as a championship contender. Predicting roster moves is hardly a strange concept for fans on blogs.

of the proposed FA's available for that year, I could only really see Cousins or Favors as possibly available players that may consider coming here.
Same.

Signing a free agent is such a crap shoot, I doubt this team gets remade that way. Plus, teams are getting to be too smart to just let someone wlka away in free agency. Most of these guys will be traded before they leave. Greg Monroe is the exception (Detroit mismanaged that deal).
agree that they're likely to be traded before they hit free agency.  the question is, do they bolt that new team to still get to free agency?

The C's would still have a load of assets to try to make a deal for either of those guys.  thing is, could they get those guys to commit to an extension/new deal like they did with KG.

Right. You've gotta have your team in pretty good shape before you do the deal to reasonably think someone will stay with you. And even then, the Lakers thought they'd be in good shape to keep Dwight and look what happened. The nice thing about that, so far, is that Brad Stevens seems to be developing a good reputation around the league.
