I have a question for either league experts or Celtics insiders:
What is the ballpark for how much cash the Celtics sent to Washington for Walker's rights? Are we talking 6 or 7 figures? Furthermore, I'm assuming that this cash has nothing to do with the salary cap, so should we expect to see more of these deals down the line with rich teams leveraging smaller market teams for players?

I'm just surprised that the rights to a player of Walker's reputation was basically available on eBay.

I haven't a clue.  But I'd wager a guess at somewhere around $500,000?

If that's the case, then this was a steal. Especially considering that Garnett is slated to make $24.5 million this year. Getting him a prospective teammate for a few percent of his salary? what a deal.

I'm pretty sure the max you can send is $3M

don't know if they are required to disclose how much they send though

The max. is $3M.

I think buying picks in this draft was very expensive, much more than usual, because of the incredible depth.

Chicago bought Asik's pick (40th?) with THREE secound round picks.

I've read that Portland payed the $3M for the 27th pick (NO).

Miami payed 2 future 2nd round pick plus cash for the 33th.

I have no clue on how much Ainge payed, but I think it was more than he would in another draft.

Well the cash was only for the draft rights to Bill Walker... they still have to agree on a contract.  Similar to the Sox spending $50 million merely for the right to negotiate with Dice-K a couple years ago.

Walker would still be pulling in some $700k I'm guessing for his contract.

It's hard to say.  There was a rumor that teams at the top of the round were seeking $1.5 to $2.0 million for picks.  That seems very steep to me.

I know the year we got Leon Powe, we sent $200,000 plus a future #2 for him.  That was a couple of years ago, and there was a pick involved, so a number around $500k wouldn't surprise me.
