Feeling similar to last series..we did it with less then stellar performances... Starting pitching good but far from great...bullpen scares and shining by Porcello....One game of big hits....
5:09 EST starting time which means we get Sox game 3 first followed by Celtics game 1!!! Lets get a double win!!
Eovaldi(guess) vs Keuchel..Last year Keuchel dominated us with one run in 6 innings but this Sox team feels different. Here is hoping Yankees vibe continues and our bats rip the hearts of Astros fans wide open with a biggie....
We need one in Houston to get back to Fenway..2 for great chance at Series...3 for lots of rest....Tuesday- lets do this!!
-
I feel pretty confident in Eovaldi and Porcello in the next couple games. We should at least split. We hit the invincible Astros in the mouth a bit tonight, and, dare I say, it, but there were moments where they looked rattled. Reminds me of the 2013 Tigers. Great team, but if you put a bit of doubt in their heads..........
A radical idea I will continue to espouse: I wanna see Kimbrel come in earlier, and Brasier get a shot to close.
Price should get some bullpen innings too. It's not like he's burning his arm out starting. I can see him coming in to save the day in some impromptu moments where he doesn't have to think too much and get some huge outs for us.

I agree with Price idea..if not time to think, he could be more effective as it does seem to be mental. Kimbrel definitely needs to be used more frequently. His numbers show he is best when used frequent so even in blowouts or losses, maybe a few batters could keep his arm and mind tuned right.
I agree we should be able to split one of next two. I would love to see us win two of three in Houston and close it game six. Hate 2-3-2 format as I think it evens out home field advantage for better team. For us though, I expect to see our offense click even bigger on the road..we will see...
-
Let's go Eovaldi! We need to get a good outing out of a starter after how much we've used the bullpen
-
There we go! 1-0 in the first inning
-
A bit of a missed opportunity not scoring JD there, but I'll take a 2-0 lead to start the game
-
would have loved to have seen us get that third run in there... was the pearce groundout not something we could run on? On west coast this is is work day so forced to follow on gamecast...

He may have been able to make it, but it's probably not worth risking it with 1 out in the 1st. A bit disappointing that we couldn't bring him in, though

if it is 50-50 my view with 1 out you do it (where you don't do it if it is zero outs). Chance of getting a wild pitch or a hit there from nunez with 2 outs has to be 30% or so. How hard were the sox hits? does it seem like we are really teeing off against him?

They've mostly been on the ground through the gaps. Not super hard hit, but enough to get the job done
-
going to be a crazy one
-
sigh, we just can't get the shut down inning.
-
Eovaldi really has good "stuff." Which is fortunate, as he can still be decently effective when he isn't pitching particularly well.
Hopefully he settles down. I'll gladly take a 2-1 lead on the road after one.
-
44 pitches through 2. Hard to imagine evoldi going more than 5 now.
-
i guess keuchal has settled in. Hopefully this reverse jinxes him somehow.
-
Oh my god, that was an incredible catch. Wow
-
so sickening
-
Oh my god, that was an incredible catch. Wow
What happened?

Oh my god, that was an incredible catch. Wow
Some horrible luck for us there. One inch higher and 3 runs. Unreal. Keuchel should give Kemp his game check for that one.

probably one of best one’s ever—-ugh
-

Incredible catch against the left field wall. Hard to put in words, but you should be able to see it in the game highlights later tonight
Edit: for more clarification, it was nearly a three run homer (or two run double) by Steve Pearce, but ended the inning instead
-
If we keep hitting the ball pretty hard good things will happen. Keuchel has not been good tonight.
We've been unlucky several times now. Houston got a couple pretty weak singles, and they've gotten away with a couple grounders that could have been double plays.
Just gotta keep at it till we break through a bit more and maybe open this thing up.
-
Uh, why didn't Nunez just tag the third base bag?!?
-
Well, here comes Devers
-
There's a really good chance that Pearce drive did hit the metal lip above that metal flap. Looks like it changed direction slightly then shot straight down into the glove. Good times.

The first replay they showed after the commercial made it look like a hut, but they never went back to it. We did challenge it, though, and they probably found that it was inconclusive

I agree there's not enough evidence to overturn. But my gut tells me, based on the replay and the crispness of the sound it made hitting the wall, that it was a home run. Just some really bad luck there. Gotta overcome.
-
65 pitches through 4 for Eovaldi. He definitely looks more in control after the rough first couple of innings
-
man it is an awful lot to ask of evoldi and the bullpen if we don't get any more runs here...
-
What the hell was that? Can we put Holt in at 3rd?
-
They scored that a double?!
That’s an error, all day. Craptastic third base defense.
-

How about Porcello? He has a good glove, right? I'll take anyone at this point.
This game has been so frustrating. Unreal.
-
I was getting ready to complain about nunez (following on gamecast and here) and then noticed we brought devers in as a pinch runner already? nunez must be hurt?

They mentioned an injury on the broadcast.

Pearce! The Truth!
-
Pearce with a monster shot..cant catch that one!
-
nice

Throat spasms

There we go! Just missed a homer last time, but he left no doubt on that one
-
Pearce is rapidly becoming one of my favorite players.
Will never forget that stretch he had at first to end the Yankees series.

I think he may have taken Moreland's powers. That's the real reason Moreland isn't playing, the injury is just a cover

Bergman has been great defensively all series. I would kill for half of that

Bad luck aside, the disparity in third base play has kept this game close.
-
That's probably it for Eovaldi, but that was a great outing. We finally got a good outing from a starter!
The bullpen needed a long start like this
-
Big Pitching by Brasier!!Lets do this!!!
-
Potential epic win in sight. Gotta be clutch.
BTW here is a pretty conclusive video that the ball hit the wall/metal flap on that Pearce drive before it touches the glove.
Pretty aggravating, but will make it all the sweeter if we win.

The Cs are.making this game hard to watch. Too much time between pitches to flip back and forth!
-
Another run scored by a bad pitch. Dang. (The good kind of "dang")
-
YES! JBJ!
That makes it way easier to watch both games
-
Bradley.... Yes...........
Knocking the big one right off the wife-beater.
-

TP for that!!!!
-
Grand Slam!!!!!!
-
How about this Sox team?!?!
-
That’ll do, Jackie, that’ll do.
-
Jackie showing flashes of big game Ortiz lately.
-
Does this mean no Kimbrell tonight?
-
Does this mean no Kimbrell tonight?
I would pitch him one..best to keep pitching daily..dont want to Osuna him

Rhythm aside, honestly he needs to get his head in order, so pitching an inning probably the best thing here.
-
TPs for everybody!!!!
Lots of adversity. Mistakes, bad luck. Gutty win, especially by Eovaldi and Pearce.
-
And there's the 2-1 lead! Now let's see Porcello kick some but tomorrow!
-
Eovaldi's been huge this postseason!
-
Bradley Jr has been huge in this series.
-
TPs to all- Love this team, Love our chances!!!

Sox in the World Series, Patriots in the SB, and Celts in the Finals is a very real possibility this year. We are spoiled.

True dat
Bruins are great too, flying under the radar a bit cause the other teams are just that good.
