First concert....Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass with Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66 at the DC outdoor Carter Barron Amphitheater, 1966.

Best concert....Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, early 70s at the Celler Door, 200+ max seating.  The horns were amazing.

Worst and one of the best at the same time....an incredible performer named Emitt Rhodes who wrote, sang, and played all the instruments on his albums in the early 70s.  Sounded like Paul McCartney after breaking away from the Beatles.  He had stage fright and had to be ushered on stage by his manager. He then sat at a piano and kept his back  to the audience the whole show.  George Carlin was the opening act and did his thing for more than an hour while we waited for Rhodes to get enough courage to come on stage.

Better than expected...Ricky Nelson!  A young group named America was his opening act...they were great.

Last memorable concert...The Stones.  Doubt I'll ever see them again, lost interest in their sound.
Herb Alpert?  That's a real oldie.  TP   hate to say I was still in diapers when you saw them

Great thread idea.

First- Pat Benatar.
Best- hard to say because different concerts can be great in different ways.  I think I had the most I’ve had at concerts were some Rage Against the Machine shows.  There were incredible mosh pits.  I saw them at Woodstock 99 and it was ridiculous.  I had fun at Iron Maiden, some Aerosmith shows, watched in awe of Jeff Beck a few times.  Audioslave was always fun too.
Worst- Dave Mathews.  I paid over $500 for two tickets then drank too much.  I told my girlfriend to use the navigation to go to “Comcast” then passed out.  I forgot the name had changed to Xfinity Center and when I woke up we were in the wrong city and only got to see the final two songs by the time we arrived at the show.
Last shows- a blues festival with Robert Randolph and others and a festival with Seether, Korn, and Stone Sour.
Next show- Ozzy and Stone Sour in a couple weeks.
Bands I would have seen if I knew what I know now- Nirvana and Alice In Chains.  Would love to have seen Stevie Ray Vaughan too, but I died before I was really going to concerts.  I still haven’t seen the Stones because the tickets are always too expensive to get seats that I’d be happy with.

That is a shame about Dave Matthews. I've seen him twice. first time was easily one of the best shows I've seen. Second time was not as magical but still very good.

what's really sad is that Moiso died.  thankfully technology is allowing him to communicate from beyond the grave apparently  ;)

TP to Moiso for maintaining a real long-distance dedication to the blog!

The first concert I went to was Kansas with Loverboy warming up. Both were excellent as Kansas was still young, around 1980, and Loverboy was just getting started. I still remember Steve Walsh, lead singer for Kansas, doing a handstand on the keyboard while kicking his feet to the beat of Carry on Wayward Son!

BEST CONCERT: This would have to be the Monsters of Rock Tour in 88 at Arrowhead Stadium in K.C. The main bands were Van Halen, The Scorpions, and Metallica. The Scorpions really stole the show from Van Halen. It was a miserably hot day in Arrowhead.

Saw RUSH in Hollywood Florida circa 1985 and loved it!

Best individual show would have to go to a guy named Jason D. Williams at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis circa 1988. This guy was suppose to be Jerry Lee Lewis illegitimate son and he looked a lot like him too. Anyway, it was a small venue and this guy just brought the house down.

Close 2nd place on the best individual performance: Kenny Wayne Shephard in St. Louis downtown with the Arch about 1000 feet behind the outdoor stage. The guy can play the guitar!

Motley Crew at the Sprint Center in K.C. was great too as was Kansas at the Buffalo Run Casino on a very still summer night. Those guys are just so talented and if you ever go to an outdoor concert try to go on a night when there is not much wind. This night was beautiful and not a lot of people were there but Kansas didn't let that slow them down.

What's the first concert you attended?
What's the best/favorite concert you attended?
What's the performer/band you've seen in concert the most?
What's the last concert you went to?
What's the worst concert you went to?
What concert was better than you expected?
What performer/band did you see that will never perform again (break up or death)?

First concert was in 1973. Led Zeppelin

Best concert was probably Elvis Costello and the Attractions in 1979

The last concert I went to was The Pogues, when they reunited a couple of years ago. Great show. It took 4 days for the ringing to stop in my ears. I found out that I have hearing loss and stopped going to live music.

The performer I've seen the most has been Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys probably around 6 times.

I don't think that I"ve been to a bad concert. I saw Bob Dylan with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and was disappointed because the show was at an outdoor stadium.

I saw Roy Orbison a couple of months before he died. I didn't expect very much and what a show he put on. I had tingling up and down my spine when he played "Crying"

Ha all of the bands that I like have broken up or key performers are dead. If I could see one show by one band it would probably be The Byrds.

It was high energy, intense and pure. I didn't know you could cram so many songs into one 90 minute show.

I just don't know where to begin to answer that question.  :)

My memory is that they played everything plus covers probably about 30-40 songs.

A great artist and band at the height of their powers. They really delivered the goods before an appreciative crowd.
