Okay, time a new fantasy game (again). This will be much like the Celticsblog draft, with a twist.
First, the scenario (laid out originally in
this thread):
David Stern has gone crazy, and he's decided that the NBA essentially needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. Existing teams can keep two players that they currently own the rights to; all other players will be thrown into a massive draft, where teams will select in reverse order of last year's finish. Existing contracts are kept, and after all salaries are drafted, existing salary cap rules will go into effect. The only caveat is that teams will enjoy a right-of-first-refusal on any contract signed by one of the two players they kept for the rest of their career.
Here are the rules for this game:
1. There will be 28*** participants, each of whom will be a GM of a certain team. People should sign up in this thread. Additionally, I may send up PMs to recruit certain members. If more than 30 people indicate that they're interested, I'll narrow down the selected GMs.
2. Teams will be assigned at random.
3. The draft will be conducted in reverse order of standings as of 1/23/2011. Each team will "protect" two existing members, with all other players subject to be drafted.
4. Teams / draft order will be announced on January 24. Participants must announce their two protected players no later than Friday, January 28.
5. The draft will begin on Monday, Jan 31st, and will continue for 10 rounds, one round per day, on a schedule to be determined. This will *not* be a snake draft; teams will pick in the same slot in each round, barring trades.
6. I will be both the Commissioner and a participant. Sorry, you're just going to have to deal with it.
My rulings are final.
7. Trades will be permitted, but not until the completion of the first round. I will have veto power over any trades, but this power will be used sparingly.
8. Every effort should be made to be present for your draft pick. If you're a poster who is generally not available during the day due to work or school commitments, please do not sign up.
9.
There will be no formal voting / evaluation process. This is meant to be something fun to get us through the mid-season doldrums.
10. I reserve the right to replace managers at any time that I deem such would be in the best interests of the draft.
11. Rules are subject to change at my discretion.
=========================================================
Players who successfully finished last years' draft or excused themselves in a responsible fashion will be given the first option to sign up, but I'm sure we'll have a fair amount of teams left over.

***We contracted the league from 30 teams to 28 this year, because the Raptors and the Cavaliers are both pathetic.
