FCS (formally DIAA) school Delaware State will forfeit a conference football game against North Carolina A&T in order to travel to Michigan to play the Wolverines and collect the $550,000 check that comes with the game in the Big House.  I'm not sure who is to blame for Delaware State having two games on the same day, but an alternate date for the conference game could not be found (and obviously Michigan is going to play on that date and could easily just find a different lower level opponent).  Delaware State is apparently willing to risk a potential conference title as well as possibly a playoff appearance to play an out of division game that pays a ton of money.  Will this be the trend in the future or is this just a fluke occurance not likely to happen again.

I don't think its the start of the trend.

Just poor scheduling on the school's part and the subsequent following of the money.  $500,000 is probably a decent amount for a school of its size.

I can see why a school like Delaware State would want to take the money.  $550,000 is a lot of money.

(I represent a lot of state colleges through work, and I know their budgets are *very* tight right now.  I'm seeing amounts under $10,000 hold up million dollar settlements.  I can't imagine what these schools would do for $550k.)

Plus Appalachian State became an instant legend when they won in the big house. I wouldn't mind that if I were Delaware St
