Do we have anyone who can guard John Wall?

With Horford not available to patrol the paint?  No.  It takes a whole team defense to guard a guy like that, and we had no interior presence tonight.  No Horford, limited Baynes, Theis fouled out, and Williams doesn't know what he's doing yet.  That's going to have an impact on your ability to protect the rim.

But we have to be able to win games like this.  I view it as a very good thing that we're winning even when guys are beating our defense now.  Earlier in the season, our offense wouldn't have been enough to carry us.

Everyone will give Irving credit - but he gave up one layup after another in regulation and overtime. If he plays defense, we don't need those miracle 3's he made.
Agree
Really guys? John Wall is like the fastest guy with a dribble in the league. When he is on, and he was, he can be pretty unstoppable. Complaining about Kyrie after this game is just showing your obvious bias.

Go and look at any top scoring PG in the league today.  There isn't a single one that can stop any of the other top scoring PG's.  It's mostly just the nature of that position today.

At least Kyrie puts in effort, and can function within the team's scheme.  Not all of the other top scoring PG's can say that.

Yup. Best you can do is either outplay or match your counterpart. Irving did just that. Its why guys like Wall, Irving can have huge games against defenders like AB and Smart.

i have always said i will take my chances making wall beat me with JAYs instead of drives

if he gets drives he will destroy you. not even up for debate and we all know it
It’s a lot easier said than done. Guy can get into the paint at will. I made this point earlier as well but I think if the Cs really wanted to try to slow him down, they’d try to put Smart on him. I think they rather have Wall best them with 2s than Beal get hot and beat them with 3s.
THIS, TP.  Lotsa nice things being said about Wall here, but it really was Beal’s threes that had to be stopped, thus Smart guarding him.  Give Brad some credit.

I'm just wondering why Williams wasn't in the game at the end to possibly try to defend the rim from Walls late game assault.
Might have been that Wall absolutely schooled Williams on a regular basis earlier in the game.

Wall schooled everyone.

I agree but his comment was about why Williams wasn't in. Not everyone.

Williams had the same statistical game as Theis, without the fouls...

Dang, in typical fashion, the team sucks when Kyrie prioritizes his points; Kyrie -9, Wall +14, Rozier +1.

Let's pick it up guys.  Slow down Beal and (gulp) Jeff Green.  This team is an imploding team with a frieken 11-16 record.

The team really did suck when Kyrie prioritized his points tonight.

Brad just saying that Smart was 'officially' playing the 5 out there in OT. Interesting he felt the need to reference exactly what position he was playing.

Also, 25-25 on FTs - that is doing what you are supposed to!

Yeah, gotta give them credit for making all their free throws tonight, when we needed each and every one of them.

21 in the 2nd half after only 4 attempts in the first. I’m sure brad had something to say about that

It’s a game thread. We are all allowed to vent a little.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Great game.  Someone get John Wall a wheelchair.

Gotta tip my hat to him for going with the old Paul Pierce maneuver

RW3 brings so much - and also has a lot to learn. When he had to defend the perimeter tonight he didn't sit down in a stance - almost stood straight up. I grant that Wall was going by pretty much everybody not named Marcus Smart, but RW3 can do better.

The stats don’t show how many times they switched Wall onto Rob so Wall could blow by him. He was too close to Wall so Wall just treated him like a turnstile. They had to go small in the 4th with smart playing the 5 for that reason (though it didn’t stop Wall much)

Take nothing away from Timelords effort and contributions though, he did a lot of good things and the potential is mouth watering.
