The West now goes through LA again as Lakers take down Jazz to clinch #1 seed.

Man, who'd imagine 10 years later they're back on top again. Davis putting up 42/12 tonight.
Took them embarrassingly long to rebuild, and IMO they’ve built a team that has seriously big weaknesses. Excited to see them get bounced in the playoffs
^^^inb4 Portland sneaks in as the eighth seed and takes them down in the first round.

Memphis haven't won yet, so it’s not impossible. I think Dame and CJ could absolutely scorch LA

Dame and CJ couldn't get past AD and the Pels in the 1st round a couple years ago.  Dame will get his numbers but whether that equates to winning playoff games is a different story.  Blazers will need someone else to step up to have a chance to get by the Lakers.

I don't think Dame is the problem with that team. As good as CJ is, he is not a number 2. Then their number 3 is Nurkic or Melo. That's not a great team. Credit to Stotts for orchestrating a great offense in spite of the mediocre talent.

There is also something fundamentally flawed with a team whose best two players are defensive sieves, particularly at the guard spots. Even James Harden has figured out how to help on defense by defending the post and getting some steals.

I've always thought that Stotts could get similar production to McCullom at the guard spot from rotation guys. I've always thought they would be better off with Aaron Gordon or a similar player than McCullom.

I agree.  Portland would benefit from a better two-way wing player alongside Lilliard.  This would be a risky move but they should consider reaching out to Indiana regarding the availability of Oladipo.  He would only need to be 85% of his pre-injury self to be a much better fit than CJ.

Why focus on a bad series from 2 years ago?

Lillard had a terrible series, worst playoff performance of his career.  Never broke 20 points.  Shot 35% from the field and 30% from 3 (for 41.5% eFG%) with 4 turnovers a game. I believe largely due to Jrue Holiday playing great D on him.

But then they went to the WCF last year without their 3rd best player.  Why not focus on that?

Lillard was less than stellar against the Warriors, mainly guarded by Klay (22.3ppg, 8.5apg with 4.5 turnoves, 47% eFG%) but at least he got them there (playing great against the Thunder and with some big games against the Nuggets though McCollum was probably better that series).

The Lakers have some bigger, capable defenders in Caldwell-Pope and Green, but Lillard's also put up 48, 31, 29 on them this year too.

I don't know what the odds are (not great), but they have the best shot of any #8 seed in a long time of taking out a #1, especially with Nurkic back.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Phoenix have been weirdly good so far in the bubble. Ayton has extended his range to beyond the arc

Jrue Holiday is underrated and he was great that series.  However he isn't Lebron.
Dame will be the 3rd best star on the court against the Lakers.  Nurkic didn't do much to slow down AD in the series 2 years ago.  This season the Lakers are 2-1 against the Blazers.  Given the strange situation this year, I'd give the Blazers a better upset chance but still not very much.

Beating OKC and Nuggets last year doesn't impress me much and then they got swept by the Durant-less Warriors.
